Advantages: The last release before Chinese Democracy!

Disadvantages: All covers of punk songs, no impressive lead guitar playing

The Spaghetti Incident was released in 1999 and was the follow up album to the Use Your Illusion releases. For anyone that doesn't know, both Use Your Illusion I and II were both released on the same day in 1991 (may have been 1992!) therefore there was quite a long wait until their next release (ahem!). Prior to the release of The Spaghetti Incident there were a lot of problems within the band and I recall a few arguments between Axl Rose and Slash both before and after the release of the album, hence the new Guns n Roses ever changing line-up!

The Spaghetti Incident is a collection of songs that were not written by Guns n Roses. The album actually consists of a series of cover versions of the bands favourite punk songs from previous decades. The album kicks off with a soft ballad, Since I Don't Have You, originally written by The Skyliners. Following this is the classic punk song New Rose by The Damned.

The band then go on to cover more of their classic punk tracks, including Ain't It Fun originally by The Dead Boys which I personally think is the best track on the album, Buick Makane by Marc Bolan, Hair Of The Dog by Nazareth, Black Leather by The Professionals and even finishes off with a cover of Look At Your Game, Girl, written by Charles Manson - probably one of Axl Roses's most hated people!

Being a cover album, you won't find any of Slash's extraordinarily impressive lead guitar playing feats here, though it is an album of extreme attitude and I think the original plan was to make it quite offensive and sleazy, though it hasn't really ended up that way. Admittedly, this isn't one of Guns n Roses best releases but it is a must-have for die-hard fans of the band. Duff Mckagan, the original bassist of Guns n Roses also sings vocals on a few of the tracks. I think mainly because he has the punkiest voice and sings very loosely.

Summary: Not bad but not great either, a must have for GNR fans all over the world
