Advantages: Everything

Disadvantages: Nothing

"The Stone Roses" is the Stone Roses' debut album, released in 1989.The album has been critically acclaimed worldwide, but I have never heard it so I thought I would give it a listen. Also the album was recently re-mastered and re-released for it's 20th anniversary and there were a lot of music people on TV talking about how great it was, so I wanted to find out what the hype was all about. Lucky for me, I wasn't disappointed and each of the eleven songs has their own individual charm...

I Wanna Be Adored:
The first song of the album, it is very atmospheric as it starts off slowly with the bass line, before the drums build up and the guitar comes in and it all just works well. Then Ian Brown's nearly creepy lyrics come in and you just know this song is a classic. For some reason he only repeats the same few lyrics throughout the song.

She Bangs the Drums:
This song is the sort of song you would drunkenly dance slowly to with your eyes closed. Its one of my favourites of the album and is the perfect song to follow I Wanna Be Adored. The song is about "when everything comes together" according to the band's guitarist John Squire and the band must have got that feeling when they made this song.

Waterfall:
This is the theme tune to Irish topical show "The Panel" and I had always wondered what song it was so imagine my delight when I realised it was on this album. Once you hear this song I guarantee you will never get it out of your head for the rest of your life! The guitar is just so infectious and the singing is Ian Brown at his finest.

Don't Stop:
"Don't Stop" is Ian Brown singing over an instrumental of the previous song "Waterfall". It is my least favourite song on the album but still quite interesting because the instruments of "Waterfall" still sound good backwards.

Bye Bye Badman:
Bye Bye Badman is my favourite song off the album. It has a very cheerful vibe off it and one that puts a smile onto your face. This album was released in Spring and this is certainly a song that reminds of spring because it has an optimistic tone.

Elizabeth My Dear:
Elizabeth My Dear is a short song at only fifty-four seconds and is only acoustic guitar and singing. It's nice but a bit short to make any further comment.

(Song for my) Sugar Spun Sister:
This is a great song that picks up pace as it goes along and a real foot-tapper.The guitar work is excellent but maybe Ian Brown's voice is slightly to weak for this song.

Made Of Stone:
Ian Brown's airy vocals are brilliant in this and the bass is much more pronounced in this song than the others. Another song that affects the listener in many different ways.

Shoot You Down:
John's guitar work at the start is relaxed and this song is one that you can just chill to with its relaxed vibe throughout.

This Is the One:
Ian Brown's voice sounds a little clearer in this song and it sounds more like a traditional rock song.

I am the Resurrection:
The Stone Roses at their finest. Green Day borrowed the opening drum loop for their song "Know Your Enemy". The whole band is just brilliant in this perfect climax to a perfect album.

Summary: Perfection
