      Very helpful

      Helloween's seventh album (1996).

Helloween's second album with singer Andi Deris isn't quite as impressive as his debut 'Master of the Rings,' and ends up being a distinctly mediocre power metal album that rests on the legacy of the band name. The guitars all sound like fairly generic sub-Judas Priest heavy metal, being played a decade too late for most people to actually care, but it has to be said that the choruses are still mostly a lot of fun, especially in the opener 'We Burn' and closer 'The Time of the Oath,' which happen to be the best songs here. The latter in particular is pretty much the only reason I keep returning to this album, as its driving riff, while overly repetitive, is still really powerful.

The album's weakest points are the ballads that the band is still under the delusion that it can pull off without sounding unbearably cheesy, particularly the acoustic 'If I Knew,' but being Helloween, some of these songs get away with levels of cheese that other bands wouldn't be permitted, the catchy chorus to 'Power' being high on the guilty pleasure level.
