With bands now a days we seem to know their songs before we know the band, this is a prime case of what has happened with The Hoosiers, who released their debut album "The Trick to life" this very CD I'm reviewing quite recently and yet despite having had their first single released originally just through the net ("Worried about Ray") reaching #15 on downloads alone (peaking at #5 when the single was released on CD). We'd all heard the song and it'd got into all our heads despite many of us asking who they were. Well The Hoosiers are a british-seweedish band (members are from Exeter, Reading and Stockholm) and have currently released 2 ... Read the complete review

I fell in love with the Hoosiers when 'Worried about Ray' came out. I was fascinated by the rather feminine but butch, husky voice of Irwin Sparkes almost similar to the Eurythromics. I instantly recognised parts of the tune as I had the song on my MP3 player and it took me a while to get it but when I said to my other half "that woman is singing a song by the turtles" he said "don't be silly" but I knew I recognised it and if you listen very carefully it has strong similarities between the Turtles Happy Together, but it is a man singing it. I soon forgot about them until their next single "Goodbye Mr A" came on the radio and I ... Read the complete review

I know that many people had said that The Hoosiers write some catchy songs, but I'm not sure its possible to explain how extremely catchy they are. I am very uncharacteristically writing this review in the morning, as I played The Hoosiers album last night, and several of the songs are still in my head now! I didn't buy the album when it first came out, but more recently I started listening to a couple of Hoosiers songs more often on youtube. I considered downloading a few tracks from AmazonMP3 (a fantastic download site I have also reviewed), but I found the album very cheaply in the internet, so I thought it was well worth purchasing the CD. Peaking in 2007, quirky band The Hoosiers swiftly delivered their own unique brand of comedy guitar pop. My biggest worry for the group was, whether they were going to be a one trick pony though. Who are they: UK based group who deliver bright and energetic guitar indie pop. On this album: 'Worried About Ray' spent a lifetime in the singles chart, bounding up and down like a yoyo thanks to non-stop airplay through the summer of 2007. It is a catchy breezy pop track with comic touches. Much in the same vein was 'Worst Case Scenario', a deliciously catchy and bright pop track, despite the lyrics, the group delivered it with ... The 'trick to life' was released in 2007, on October the 22nd 2007. (UK) It reached number 1 in the UK charts, quite an impressive achievement for such a blend of indie, rock and pop as many artists succeeding in the charts nowadays tending to be mainstream R & B or other variations of this genre. As for the album itself, it has a very flowy feel to it, having different sections, up and downs which is what makes a great album great. I will now tell you about some of the individual songs on the album From the album they released four singles: 'Worried About Ray' Reached number 5 in the UK ... Read the complete review
