Advantages: all the hits

Disadvantages: some weak songs

Did you know that Dr Alban used to be a dentist? It might have been a more rewarding career path actually, as he seems to have been a little quiet of late. In fairness, Dr Alban is more popular overseas. He is much in demand for dance music projects, were his vocal talents are employed.

This is his best of, which collects all his hits from 1990 through to 1997. Most people will know his anthemic 'It's My Life' which I think was even used to advertise certain 'ladies bathroom related items'! This is a real stormer of a song, piano driven with his flat dulcet tones washing over the song.

'One Love' is pretty decent, thanks to a gripping start, with some wailing vocals. The song transports you to far off lands and there is a strong eco message in the song. Alban's rap is too quiet though. 'No Coke' is an odd affair, it sounds dated thanks to a cheap keyboard riff and infuses reggae elements.

'Look Who's Talking' is uplifting eurodance at its best, with a superb female hook driving the song forward. It benefits from rousing key changes and minimal rapping from Dr Alban! Check out 'Away From Home' which sounds like a cast off Ace Of Base track. It has a neat rhythm to it which you could grind to and has summer written all over it. His vocals are more tuneful than normal and it should have been a bigger hit in the UK.

'Sing Hallelujah' has been covered by another dance act since, but his version remains the superior. The melody is refreshing and the gospel driven chorus will invigorate the senses. As you reach the end of the album, it is padded with some remixes which are a little pointless, but will be useful for hardcore Alban fans.

If you like mid nineties eurodance like Real McCoy and Cappella, then this could be up your street. 17 tracks and a lovely photo of him looking cool in shades.

Summary: not too bad

I'm really not sure he can justify a greatest hits collection!
