Top pop rock nostalgia from the glitter-glam era

This is a fantastic value item. You can get this for as little as about £3.00 on ebid, Amazon and ebay. What you are getting for that price is over 40 T-Rex tracks, which includes hits, B-sides and other material. One of the most significant things about this album is that it is missing tracks such as Get it On, Hot Love, Jeepster, Debora. While I am not too struck with Debora anyway (and who would be struck with a chick who looked like a zeb-e-ra), I am most miffed that the other three tracks aren't on here.

For those who haven't heard of T-Rex or any of their songs, they were part of the early 1970s glam rock era (that seems soooo long ago now). Their musical structure relies to some extent on a classic three chord blues pattern, but that is as far as it goes concerning anything bluesy.

This is rock meets Tolkien meets spaceman meets glitterboys. Lyrically absurd and dreamlike; those who look for deaper meaning might revel in the words. Those who just like a good old rocky pop song to have a boogie to will boogie-oogie-oogie.

Listening to this in the 21st century it sounds really cheesey, but put on your tin-foil nostalgia hat and reminisce about school discos, or should I say discoteque. Hey 21st century kids! Get this on the CD player as you are getting ready to go out to a fancy dress party - Marc Bolan is always a good fancy dress choice for the guys, and don't forget the third sock (if you need it - snigger).

This is recommended purchasing for that forty- or fifty-something friend in the office for the Secret Santa, but hey, you ought to sneak a listen before you wrap it up.

Check the track listings carefully before you buy those 'best ofs'

I am a little after (well a lot) after T Rex's era but adore thier music, which has clearly stood the test of time. Not having bought all the albums along the way, I bought what I thought looked a substantial greatest hits to get my collection well and truly underway. I should have inspected a little more before I bought. This is a doulbe album, 137 mins playing time with 45 digitally remastered recordings. Called 'The Very Best of T Rex'. Featuring big hits such as Telegram Sam and Children of the Revolution but if it's a Best of, where then is Ride a White Swan.. Get it On... Cosmic Dancer? I really feel a little cheated that this 'Best Of' has missed out some crucial hits. Taking nothing away form how good the songs are though, but I had to buy another 'Best Of' which did have those hits on and now I'm doubled up on a lot. Shame, A great band but a disappointing compilation.
