Advantages: Sounds familiar

Disadvantages: Sounds dull and unoriginal

I had high hopes for this album, as a friend in New York had been raving to me about The Virgins for a little while now. However, this excitement was short lived and fell flat when I actually listened to the CD.

The opening track sounds vocally a little like Elvis Costello, which is a good thing, but this is just about where the good times end. The sirens in "Murder", although I can see why they were there, I felt they were not necessary. I felt by adding this novelty sound they were trying to sound different but they actually ended up sounding very ordinary indeed. Amaturish even. I can understand why they have a following of teenage fans; they are trying to be indie and slightly different.

For the more seasoned music fan, there is nothing new or different about the band. They have no outstanding features to validate buying the album, which just comes under the "OK" category for me as it did not capture my imagination in any of its songs.

Their inspiration seems to be largely The Strokes but I feel they need to work more towards finding their own unique sound as there are so many bands that all sound the same saturating the market and it's wearing thin with music consumers.

Summary: Nothing more or less than just OK
