I bought this compilation in 1996 upon its original release. I had heard Thin Lizzy on the radio and on a Jeremy Clarkson 'Top Gear' tape [oh, the shame!] and as a teenager this music resonated with me much more than Brit-Pop trash like Echobelly, Menswear, Sleeper etc [though I was a big Blur fan]. The C.D sounds great, even now after 12 years I can put this on and crank it up and it will bother the neighbours. Thin Lizzy is forever linked with my teen years as I was in a band and we attempted Thin Lizzy's version of 'Whisky In The Jar'. It has been just over twenty years since Phil Lynott; charismatic front man with Thin Lizzy, left this mortal world. It is heart warming to know that over those intervening two decades affection for his music has grown and his passing is still marked with a celebratory gig in his hometown of Dublin. In 1996 this CD was issued serving both as a commemoratory marker of the mans work and as a greatest hits for the band he fronted. It is a mark of Lynott's song writing mastery and the talent of the rest of the band that these songs seem to grow in stature over the years since their creation, testimonies to this can be found in the most unlikely of places.
