The Unutterable - The Fall

Rating:
Loving The Fall ... a unique thing indeed, a thankless, morbid, fascinating case of kicking against the pricks, going against the grain and being endlessly pitied ... in its way as masochistic an occupation as being a follower of Leeds United, and for my sins a twin peaks of insanity which will earn you knowing sideways glances and a nudge nudge wink wink sigh of concern ... not many are chosen and few stay the course... For me, the love affair with The Fall began back in their dark and grimy origins back in the late 70's with the raw, untutored sacrilege of the debut LIve At The Witch Trials monument, it bloomed madly during their brief flirtation with the margins ...

have put a Fall record in the music category! And what a record! Forever underated (aside from a brief foray into the top 40 in the mid-eighties) The Fall - in all its various guises - and its chirpy frontman, Mark E Smith, have constantly managed to produce sounds which challenge your brain. Rather than sit back and listen to the complacent drone of todays pre-fabricated bands why not listen to something a bit less nice? A bit less safe? Why not listen to The Falls latest album and try to decipher the drunken ramblings of a grumpy old alcoholic who happens to be a lyrical genius? With his new line up (the previous Fall line up of 15 years quit on tour in America ...

Sandy And The Strawbs - Sandy Denny
Sandy Denny at the best period of her singing career.
Not known enough.

great production
none offhand
G. Mahler - Symphony No.6 In A Minor "tragic"
A most powerful and unique work in the annals of music

A Strada: Le Meilleur De I Mu - Muvrini
Folk - Traditional Folk
Smile... It Confuses People - Sandi Thom
Some decent bouncy pop tunes
Too many slower tracks, which aren't her strength

Not their best effort

Some brilliance
Some crap
An Answer Can Be Found - CKY
Shows good progression from last album, many strong songs
Second half a little weaker, somewhat forumlaic
