Some bits good, some bits bad

I really like Jack Johnson. I had been so impressed by his first two albums, Brushfire Fairytales and On and On, that I wanted more. When searching on Amazon, this album came up as being by Jack Johnson, so I thought I would give it a try. It is a soundtrack for the Thicker than Water surf movie that Jack and two friends put together in the summer of 2000. I have to admit to being a little disappointed when I first got the soundtrack and listened to it. There is still the very obvious mark of Jack Johnson and his laid back summer jams, but some of the songs by contributing artists are just not very good and in the case of Finlay Quaye, plain annoying. G.Love and Special Sauce also contribute and I did like Hobo Blues. Breezy acoustic guitars and sun soaked harmonies are perfectly in place throughout Moonshine and The Cove, again are very much typical Jack Johnson. These in my opinion are the plus points. My Guru by Kalyani and Anandji is not very good and does actually become irritating. I fint when I listen to Thicker than Water that I skip a lot of tracks and concentrate on the Jack Johnson efforts. My advice is stick to his solo releases, as although there are some decent tracks here, there seem to be too many fillers for my liking. Maybe they are great to watch a surf film too, but not really my cup of tea.
