My girlfriend first intrduced me to M Modest Mouse a few months ago. She gave me all of the bands albums and over the 12 years they have been formed they have developed their own unique style. This most recent album was an eagerly anticipated collaboration with ex-Smiths Jonny Marr, a well renowned British songwriter. Many loyal Modest Mouse fans were not impressed with the idea of Marr - who has historically been involved well polished and produced pop music - working with MM, whos style has has been very lo-fi and rough around the edges indie since their debut in 1996. This was the first M Modest Mouse album that I got my hands on, I d heard so much hype about the band from various media sources and friends. At first really didn t know what to think about this album, I loved the more melodic songs songs like Float On , World at Large and One Chance but was confused by the more unusual, schizophrenic, tracks like The Ocean Breathes Salty and Black Cadillacs . However, I was sure that I liked the album as a whole and stuck to it, playing it in my car and at work (when possible). Coming out of Seattle, Washington State, this band have been around for a few years now but this is their major label debut. It was released early 2004 on Sony and appeared high on many Albums Of The Year list. There are 17 or 18 tracks on here, however one of them lasts nine seconds, another one something like 53 seconds.....so don't be fooled into thinking you are getting a double album or anything like that. It's hard to pin a tag on this musically, and perhaps that's what the band intended.
