Advantages: Punky and edgy with some witty spiteful lyrics. Definitely worth a come-back.

Disadvantages: The punkier harder sound puts some people off but I think true fans will love it all the same.

There is no artist who takes me back to my youth as much as Elvis Costello (who I had a serious crush on). I am also convinced that Elvis Costello is going to make a come back with the cool kids who are still listening to The Smiths and The Queen Is Dead. Hopefully it wont take them too long to catch on to old Elvis too as he is just as worthy as Moz.

Although This Year's Model, isn't my favourite album, it is one that I listen to most often. This is mainly because it is the only one I have in my car. Elvis Costello's songwriting hasn't changed in this album but the music has. There is a slight punky quality to the songs, which I really liked. They present the malicious lyrics beautifully.

Costello and the Attractions set a wild pace for this album that results in have a much meaner set than on My Aim Is True . I think it's because The Attractions originated as a Rock N Roll band that they give the music a more forceful feel, which really lights a fire inside and compliments Elvis Costello's
lyrical sexual menace.

There are some really strange songs on thsi album too tough. "Night Rally" touches on a fascination with fascism that pretty much defines the next album, Armed Forces. Even the songs that sound tame, like "Hand in Hand," "Little Triggers," "Lip Service," "Living in Paradise" all become edgy with the breathlessness of Costello's vocals.

So to summarise, if you are fan of Costello, this is definitely a must have valuable part of the bigger Elvis Costello musical story. If you haven't heard of him but like The Smiths and other rockin gloom-mongers, then you will love the spiteful lyrics that he comes out with. Worth a try.

Summary: Totally rocks.
