Advantages: Excellent Tracks
Disadvantages: May seem abit sameish to some
Sugababes are fast becoming one of the most consistent, oustanding and ground-breaking artists of this generation. There is a certain distinction in their songs and the style of their music, it seems distinctive as they do not sing the usual up-tempo pop song, and when they do pop they seem to mix it with soul and jazz.
It is true to say that this girl band, are now popular and critically acllaimed because of merit, and their excellent music. Before their rise to fame with the hit album ''Angels and Dirty Faces'' (their second album), they where unknown and had released contunious singles and an album which failed to make much impact on the public and the singles chart. However, it is in doubt true that ''Freek Like Me'', the cover of a classic song got them noticed and helped them - infact, it made such an impact that it went to number one and got them a hit album, radio airplay and a whole swing of hits as well.
After a short break, the question that critics where posing, was whether the most distinctive girl-group currently, was if they could do it again. With their new single ''Hole In The Head'' and '''Three'' (their third album) they proved they could, ''Hole In The Head'' went to number one in the singles chart and ''Three'' went to number three in the albums chart. But surely, chart success does not determine the quality, and greatness of neither an album or a single, but luckily for this album it is of no difference as this album proves to be classic, distinctive (as expected), containing soul, jazzy and rocky pop songs, a few beautiful ballads and some songs that you just can't help but swing to. ''Three'', excellently titled is a credit to the Sugababes, and for me goes without saying is one great album.
''Hole In The Head'', was their first single - it made a great impact and promoted their album well, which is a credit to the song (went to number one, as well). ''Hole In The Head'' is a great soul and rock pop track that is one of those tracks that sticks in your mind for a long time.
''Whatever Makes You Happy'' is another great pop-track, again the distinctive pop track, you would expect from the Sugababes. It is quite like '''Hole In The Head'' - it's catchy. I would defintley say it could have been a potential single.
''Caught In A Moment'' is a beautiful ballad, one which Sugababes totally deliever to the listener. It highlights just how distinctive they are and shows that they have vocal talent and is excellently produced. As i say, Sugababes not only make this is a beautiful ballad it has the slight hint of pop mixed in to it as well.
''Situations Heavy'' again is another great pop song, one which sticks in your mind. The backing music is so light that the song is made into a pop song by the vocals of Sugababes. Excellent lyrics, it is pop - again it is great that it not just a pop song, it is a song you would have expected to hear many years ago, it is full of soul, intentially jazzy and would make a great single.
''Million Different Ways'' has a strong beat, a great chorus and excellent verses. Another song that will stick in your mind, and is distinctive.
''Twisted'' is a very light ballad, that has no real chorus but has a beat that carries the song through. The light vocals and backing music make it perfect listening.
''We Have It All'' is pure-pop, has very loud backing music, gentle and light vocals which are delievering a perfect pop song.
''Conversations Over'' is another great pure-pop song, that you would expect to hear. But yet it is classical and has just the right amount of soul and 'R' and 'B' mixed in with it, it provides great listening.
''In The Middle'' is an excellent, pure-pop, distinctive track that will stick in your mind for many hours. Has an excellent chorus, a beautiful chorus. A song that you will surely not forget, this alone makes this album fantastic.
''Too Lost In You'' was the Sugababes second single release from ''Three'', and is a beautiful ballad and pop song. It has a mellow, soft and nice chorus with tender and touching verses that make this song great listening.
''Buster'' is proabably one of the only pure 'R' and 'B' songs you find on this album, it is catchy has a great beat - it is loud but not too loud, and catchy but not too catchy. The chorus of this song really made an impact on me as did the verses. Great Song.
''Sometimes'' is a gentle ballad that starts as a ballad and turns into a pop-song, it is again perfect listening and shows the vocal talents of the artists. The chorus is catchy, the verses are great and the song it self conforms of two genres, its brillant.
''Nasty Getto'' is a real soul and pop track that will make an impact on you. The song it self is something you would have expected to have heard many years ago, but it has just the right 21st century pop and 'R' and 'B' mixed in with it, that it is hard to ignore. This is a great song.
''Maya'' is a nice, easy and simple ballad that again shows the vocal talents of the artists, has nice, catchy chorus and the verses just move the song along, Excellent.
All in All, in all honesty, I think this album is excellent. The album easily conforms to many genres such as ballads, soul, jazz and pop. Every song, just flows on from the next and is produced well, excellently sang, written well and is what makes this the listenable and distinctive third album from the Sugababes, all the critics are raving above.
