**Introduction**

Boyz II Men are my favourite group of all time having seen them in Concert three times, Since 1992 they have released hit song after hit song, that would be tested when Member Michael McCary was forced to quit the group due to his battle with scoliosis, Many bands would have either broken up or released albums nobody even knew about. In 2004 however the three remaining members started their own record label MSM Music Group and released through Koch Records their first album as a trio.

**Throwback**

The album they Released was of course Throwback, An album of covers of some of their favourite soul hits of all time. The album features covers from Teddy Pendergrass, Michael Jackson, Hall & Oates, Al Green, DeBarge, Stylistics, Dazz Band, The Isley Brothers, Bobby Caldwell, Klymaxx and finally One Way.

1.) Let it Whip

Originally recorded by Dazz Band in 1982.

This rendition is a really funky version which is fast paced and very catchy, the thump of the beat is soon joined by the funky guitar and stupendously catchy bass hooks. The vocals as usual are superb and blend together so well. A great start to the album and a marked improvement on the original.

2.) Let's stay Together

Originally recorded by Al Green in 1972

There have been so many different versions of this legendary track and Boyz II Men's version is the closest to the original in terms of quality. All three sing the song superbly and make their version just as good as the original and different enough to make it worthwile.

3.) What you won't do for love

Originally recorded by Bobby Caldwell in 1978.

This is a fantastic version of this well known track, Each member has their sample of lead vocals and each of them does a superb job with their part. MC Lyte also appears and her rap works well alongside the funky hip hop style beats and horn backing.

4.) Cutie Pie

Originally recorded by One Way in 1982.

This is a fabulously funky fresh new version this club stomper. Everything about this track is brilliant, fantastic vocals from all three and some superbly catchy music which adds a superb touch. I wasnt that much of a fan of the original but this is just a superb reworking of the track.

5.) Close the door

Originally recorded by Teddy Pendergrass in 1978

This is one of the greatest songs by Soul Legend Teddy Pendergrass and this is a fantastic reworking of the classic hit, Nathan Morris opens the vocals with his distinctive voice and although this version is not as instant as the original it is just as good and is superbly well put together.

6.) For the love of you

Originally recorded by The Isley Brothers in 1975

This is a fantastic version of the classic track from The Isley Brothers, This song is perfect for Boyz II Men's voices. Nathan Morris opens up superbly then Wanya Morris' vocals come in and he sounds even better. A great song which is sung just superbly. Absolutely fantastic version.

7.) Sara Smile

Originally recorded by Hall & Oates in 1975.

Possibly the least well known of all the covers here but one of the best reworkings from Boyz II Men on the album, A gentle track beautifully sung with great emotion and the right musical backing. This version is Miles better than the original by Hall & Oates.

8.) Human Nature - Ft Claudette Ortiz

Originally recorded by Michael Jackson in 1982

This track features Claudette Ortiz from City High and is a fantastic reworking of this classic Michael Jackson hit, It's a little different put still keeps the catchy feel of the chorus, Boyz II Men are friends with Michael Jackson and I'm sure he loved this version of his classic track from Thriller.

9.) Time will Reveal

Originally recorded by DeBarge in 1983.

This is an incredibly performed acapella version of the DeBarge classic.
Just the vocals of the three members of Boyz II Men and some finger snaps that add a nice touch. If you are wondering about the vocal talent of Boyz II Men then just listen to this track and be amazed by all three members.

10.) I Miss You

Originally recorded by Klymaxx in 1985.

This is not to be confused with Boyz II Men's other track called I Miss You which featured as a bonus track on their album Nathan, Michael, Shawn, Wanya but a cover of all girl group Klymaxx, the only original track by a female artist on the album. This is probably the weakest original on the album but although this version is not as good as the other "I Miss You" from Boyz II Men it is still a great version.

11.) You Make Me Feel Brand New

Originally recorded by The Stylistics in 1974

This is a fabulous version of one of the greatest soul ballads from the 1970's. Nathan, Shawn and Wanya prove that they are up there with the legendary soul groups of the 1970's with this superbly sung ballad which in my opinion just tops the original.

**Overall**

Boyz II Men have since released Motown Hitsville USA which had a better choice of songs but given the quality of these reworkings Throwback isnt at all bad in fact it is simply stunning. I'd give the Motown Hitsville album the edge but this is also brilliant.
