Advantages: good listening
Disadvantages: ?
Goldie, I am feeling poorly today (sore throat) I listened to Goldie the CD Timeless. I saw Goldie several years ago at Glastonbury (boohoo could not get tickets this yr or last year boooohoo)
Anyway Goldie and Timeless Goldie is nicknamed Goldie not for the gold fillings in his teeth but for his golden hair worn in dread locks in his hip hop days. However timeless is best described as jungle I think. This CD Timeless it really is a landmark in the music of this Genre.
I had not realised till now that this music is 10 years old it was published in1995. Listening to it now I think it is timeless I can hear myself listening to this beautiful music for many more years and not thinking it dated.
Track one Timeless whispers and wails through my music system to my ears the word timeless fluttering around the air this then bursts into drum and bass the music slowly getting bigger Inner city life inner city pressure wails Goldie and D Charlemagne. The drum bests getting more insistent. The music captures the feel of the city at night. Wanting to say up and rock all night, Hey thats how Glastonbury always grabs me the feeling of a dark night a bit creepy but so much going on I want to stay up and rock all night. Listening to this is captivating the different sounds as if they are happening all around me a haunting creeping of notes then a Safe beat Then theres the haunting and wailing. Then into some heavy drum and bass. Then vocals again fading out with inner city pressure, presuuuuure this track lasts 21 minutes I can hardly believe its that long time moves quickly when I am enjoying my music
We burst into The next track Saint angel seven minutes 14 it starts at a different pace more insistent a few huhs under the beat takes me a minute to get into it, then a sound of something metallic being dropped, a lighter drum beat in this track less haunting but a few weird sounds insistent making me listen defiantly not background music. Finishes suddenly
Track 3 state of mind the sound of wind and voices take us into this track Lorna Harris vocals here and more dominant keyboard by justina Curtis. There is a steady beat of drums throughout played by Mel Gaynor. More of a jazz feel to this track. A tinkling of piano keyboard notes. The vocals are more dominant on this track.
Track lasts for 7 mins 5 secs.
Next track Sea of tears is 12 .03 long and when it starts it is different from the track before and makes me listen the guitar work builds up as sweeping shimmering noises go round this track, closing my eyes to listen / feel the music a few bird calls and whoops a few whispered words a sound of water like I feel beside a river bank or in the sea “what are you doing here a voice asks feel as if I am lying in the water now the cry of birds overhead (hush tears) Haunting feel but with a quick drum beat shutting my eyes I can feel the anxiety feel the gentle sobbing feel the music going through meThe music beat getting a little faster I can still hear the screech of a bit “sea of tears , hush away tears ” the track finishes with the sound of the sea on the beach going through the shingle
Track 5 Angel, 4 mins 56secs. I think this was a single. Some good drum beat it here and then some clapping. A tune that makes me want to bop my head in time D Charlemagne is vocals here “Angel stay with me please stay with me”.
Sensual now a tune with more echoes and vocals by Goldie and Justina Curtis. This has a beat I want to tap my fingers to in fact I am typing to the rhythm, a few mystic noises and the beat gets faster. Must admit this track does not do a lot for me. It too long 8 minutes.05S
Next track Kemistry. 7 minutes long D Charlemagne vocals again brings the music down and this track is quite melodic with a beat that gets insistent and the haunting voice that wails a little. Some eyrie noises.
Then You and me. This is a predominantly piano and synth track with drum and bass undertones. A gentle undemanding track that wends it way to the end of this CD vocals by Lorna Harris “You and me together always”
All tracks on this record written and produced by GOLDIE, listened to and enjoyed by me A pleasant way to spend my afternoon hope you enjoyed listening with me.

- 10/05/05 i haven't delved into drum n' bass yet, give me time though.
i do however have glastonbury tickets, which is rather fantastic. despite the utterly poor line up, consisting of about 5 good bands- new order, bright eyes, the coral, british sea power and not forgetting chaz n' dave. i might also go and shake my booooooooooootAY to carl cox, who knows.
