... enough, James Horner's Academy Award winning score takes the film to a new level in what is a stunning orchestrated score, with heaps of delicate strings and woodwind. There are numerous highlight tracks too which have long since become synonymous with the film, including Rose, Unwilling To Stay Unable To Leave and of course Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On which won an Academy Award for best original song. Without a doubt this is a stunning score which is worthy of only the greatest collections - and also worth n...more

Crowned Review Titanic - James Horner: "Ooo, Jack. Draw me naked, pleeeeease." (1768 words)
by - written on 05/05/07 (Very useful, 1958 readings)
Rating:

Winning a grand total of 11 Oscars, James Cameron’s Titanic was THE cinematic event of 1997. The 3½ -hour epic love story between a high society girl Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) and the poor artist Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) and set on board one of the greatest seafaring disasters of all time, created immense critical and popular acclaim, both for the incredible visuals (they practically rebuilt the Titanic in scale), the historical accuracy and for a story that made many girls swoon and cry at the theatres (and why not even a few guys). For me the story was a little too run of the mill and sappy to create much of an impression, but I have to respect the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review TITANIC Double CD Set- Limited Edition (167 words)
by - written on 04/07/00 (Useful, 89 readings)
Rating:

This double CD set from the Motion Picture “Titanic” which was aired in cinemas back in 1997, is one which you definitely should get. The haunting yet heavenly music is composed and conducted by James Horner. Boxed nicely, with a miniature theme picture of the world-renowned couple, Rose & Jack (played by Kate Winslet and Leonardo diCarprio respectively) catches the eye even from a distance. There are 15 soundtracks in the 1st CD, TITANIC and 13 soundtracks from the 2nd, Back to the Titanic. The latter is a collection of the background music which have not been brought to attention as much as those in the 1st CD, but just as important, such as “An Irish ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Titanic - James Horner: Say CHEESE! (162 words)
by - written on 22/07/00 (Useful, 45 readings)
Rating:

I'd like to say from the start that the soundtrack to the film is great (I have both CDs). The 'Titanic Suite' maybe one of the best scores of music I have ever heard (maybe except Schindler's List!). However, he's not original. Just take a look at Jumanji or and of the Land Before Time films not to mention The Rocketeer. The scores for these films are strikingly similar. What's wrong with that? Well for a start, it's a cheap way for James Horner to get loads of money (on average for him, £3 million a film). Nothing wrong with that? Well there is. Other people in the business show a wider range or imagination, not just a cheesy piano ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Brilliant (206 words)
by - written on 13/07/00 (Useful, 44 readings)
Rating:

The score to Titanic is an absolutely superb one. Horner has a truly fresh sound, which is not simply about ripping off John Williams - something of a trend among composers with not many ideas of their own. He is at his best dealing with huge, expansive chord progressions for strings, accompanying quasi folk music on some kind of very nasal instrument, whether it be the bagpipes or Northumbrian pipes or whatever. The beauty of these melody lines, with their microtonal inflections is simply profound. He also has some novel ideas when it comes to loud and fast. The track which has morse code for its rhythmic basis is superb. The only problem is that ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Titanic - James Horner: Beautifully haunting music (120 words)
by - written on 06/09/00 (Useful, 169 readings)
Rating:

The soundtrack to Titanic is as mesmerising as the film. If you've seen the film then listening to the soundtrack you can imagine the film all over again. I have both CDs and find that the Celine Dion song with voice clips from the film inserted makes it especially haunting. I say haunting because we all know the story behind the film and the music, so it makes me very emotional. I strongly suggest that if you listen to it, lie in a darkened room, close your eyes and just drift away with the music. NOTE: Not sure of the price at this present day, but below is what I payed for 2 years ago! ...  Read the complete review
