I don't know why but I've only recently got into PJ Harvey. To be honest I hadn't really heard any of her music until a few months ago. I saw the videos for Good Fortune, Down By The Water and This Is Love amongst others and fell instantly in love with the songs, especially Good Fortune. One day I was in the HMV Shop and noticed that they had some PJ Harvey albums on offer, two for £10, so I purchased Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea and the one I'm reviewing now, To Bring You My Love. Polly J Harvey split from Robert Ellis and Stephen Vaughn, which gave her the freedom to experiment and deviate from the old bluesy punk that dominated PJ Harvey's first two albums. Although her previouos albums to this were very good and definitely a lot better than most of the bands around at that time, they seemed to focus too much on the ... Read the complete review

Although this is probably Polly Harvey's most commercially successful album, I honestly can't say I think it's her best and I am a HUGE P J Harvey fan. True, this CD has some cracking tracks. 'To Bring You My Love' is full of dark, brooding melancholy: you can really hear the influence of her one time partner Nick Cave. 'Down by the Water' and 'Send his love to Me' are both great examples of excellently written songs. Although as a whole something like 'Techlo' doesn't seem as strong, the chorus 'Let me ride on his grace for a while' is filled with such a beautifully haunting sadness I can't help but sing ...
