It only gets better, though, once she has aired her discrepancies. "I was born in the desert, I've been down for years, Jesus come closer... I think my time is near." Visceral vocals and an unrivalled sense of zeal are what carry this opener. Working for the Man continues in very much the same vain. Harvey's whispered vocals slowly permeate through the ...more

PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love (1995) Producer: Flood, PJ Harvey, John Parish To Bring You My Love Meet Ze Monsta Working for the Man C'mon Billy Teclo Long Snake Moan Down by the Water I Think I'm a Mother Send His Love to Me The Dancer To Bring You My Love is the third studio album by British musician PJ Harvey (that's if we overlook her 1993 effort, 4-Track Demos, which predominantly featured stripped back versions of songs from her second album, Rid of Me). Up until 1993, 'PJ Harvey' was a collective name for the artist as well as her backing band, however, after the release of their ...  Read the complete review

I don't know why but I've only recently got into PJ Harvey. To be honest I hadn't really heard any of her music until a few months ago. I saw the videos for Good Fortune, Down By The Water and This Is Love amongst others and fell instantly in love with the songs, especially Good Fortune. One day I was in the HMV Shop and noticed that they had some PJ Harvey albums on offer, two for £10, so I purchased Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea and the one I'm reviewing now, To Bring You My Love. To Bring You My Love was originally released in 1995 and received huge critical acclaim. Rolling Stone voted it their album of the year and it featured in ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review To Bring You My Love - PJ Harvey: To Bring You My Love-PJ Harvey (383 words)

To Bring You My Love is probably one of my most played albums since I first got it as a teenager! I really cant rate this album highly enough and the reason for this one being held in higher esteem than all her previous albums is simply that this album has a new found freedom the others dont seem to have. Polly J Harvey split from Robert Ellis and Stephen Vaughn, which gave her the freedom to experiment and deviate from the old bluesy punk that dominated PJ Harvey's first two albums. Although her previouos albums to this were very good and definitely a lot better than most of the bands around at that time, they seemed to focus too much on the ...  Read the complete review

Although this is probably Polly Harvey's most commercially successful album, I honestly can't say I think it's her best and I am a HUGE P J Harvey fan. True, this CD has some cracking tracks. 'To Bring You My Love' is full of dark, brooding melancholy: you can really hear the influence of her one time partner Nick Cave. 'Down by the Water' and 'Send his love to Me' are both great examples of excellently written songs. Although as a whole something like 'Techlo' doesn't seem as strong, the chorus 'Let me ride on his grace for a while' is filled with such a beautifully haunting sadness I can't help but sing ...  Read the complete review
