Lately I've been spinning some songs from Tori Amos's 'To Venus & Back'. It was 1999 when she released this, and it was then when I discovered her and all of her greatness. At the time though I was more into 'Little Earthquakes' and then 'Boys For Pele'. 'To Venus & Back' ultimately proved to be her first step off the UK radar, but now it seems like her last real opus. It followed closely off the back of 'From The Choirgirl Hotel' but with a more mellow and electronic sound. Tori’s fifth studio album (sixth if you count the abortive Y Kant Tori Read album), came just a year after her previous release, ‘At the Choirgirl Hotel’. The album was born out a recording session, which was only aimed at recording a few new tracks for a proposed B-sides and rarities album. That record has yet to see the light of day but in its place Tori released this two CD set. A new original studio album and a live album recorded on her 1998 ‘Plugged’ tour.
