Advantages: Excellent Soundtrack.

Disadvantages: None

The "Top Gun Movie" would certainly be in my top ten lists, of "best Movies" I have ever watched. From first seeing the "Top Gun" movie back in the late eighties, I really was very impressed with the soundtrack from it and purchased it a few years later to keep in my car. I think it is an excellent driving album (infact the best ever) and I really love listening to it, when I am out and about driving in my car, by myself. This original soundtrack from the "Top Gun Movie", only has ten of the songs from the movie on it, but a special addition is available with fifteen on it.

~~Soundtrack overview~~
The Top Gun album was released in 1986 by Columbia Records. It was produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. The original version lasts for 56:51 minutes. A 2006 re-issue adds in, five additional tracks, but they really have nothing to do with the movie at all. The Top Gun album reached number one in the billboard album charts and stayed there for three weeks in 1986.

The Top Gun soundtrack is a mixture of music and theme tunes, from love songs to fast, crazy, rock music. All the songs choosen, really fit into this movie well and really remind you, of all the different scenes from the movie and bring back good memories to me. The choice of songs, chosen for the movie Top Gun was excellent and fitted each of their choosen scenes well. They are all famous tunes from this era, and all of them, really have great lyrics and background music to them.

This really is one of the best soundtracks ever made in my opinion. It really has a feel good factor to it. I have never grown tired of this soundtrack and is a must have album for everyone, who grew up knowing and loving this brilliant movie. I really am glad a soundtrack was released to follow this movie, as for me the soundtrack played a huge part in the movie overall, (well besides jet fighters and gorgeous hunks.)

~~The Cover~~
The cover to the "Top Gun" album features Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis, the two main stars of the Movie, who both ended up top pilots in the Movie, and of course they fall in love. They are dressed in their flying gear and both of them look really sexy and tough on the cover. The ten tracks from the movie, are all written on the front cover in clear white lettering, as well as on the inlay inside the case, and are all clearly marked with all their details of singers and release dates. The Soundtracks Cover, also has the heading "Top Gun" designed in the style of a jet fighters wings. It is cleverly designed and has clear white lettering with a little red detail for the wings, all set onto a sky themed background. Overall a really good and well designed album cover, I personally like.

~~A Little About Each Track~~
1. Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins: This has to be one of my top songs from the "Top Gun movie. It is a fast driving rock/pop song that "gets you in the need for speed" 'a saying from the movie'. This track last for 3:36 minutes and you never want it to finish. It is a great, catchy, likable tune, that I really love, with lots of guitars, keyboards and drum music going in the background. The lyrics are really suitable to the scene in the movie.

2. Heaven In Your Eyes - Loverboy : This is a really lovely, love song about hurting deep inside. It is a soft rock, sounding tune, that really fits into the movie well. This track lasts for 4:04 minutes.

3. Mighty Wings - Cheap Trick : This is another fast driving song that reminds you off the fighter planes in the movie. It is a rock/pop song that has lovely worded lyrics in it. The song was written by Harold Faltermeyer and Mark Spiro. This track lasts for 3:51 minutes. This song really has you singing and bopping away to it, but watch your speed if driving to this tune, as it gets me moving.

4. Take My Breath Away - Berlin: This is a beautiful love song performed by an excellent pop group. It really is a very romantic song and was in a love scene in the movie. It has beautiful lyrics to it, that tell a lovely romantic story. The background tune is really catchy also. It is written by Giorgio Moroder and Tom Whitlock. The song reached number one in the Billboard Hot 100 on September 13, 1986 and became number 1 in the UK for four weeks in 1986. This track lasts for 4:11 minutes. It really suits the love scene in this movie very well and to me, everytime I hear this song, I can see this great movie scene in my head.

5. Top Gun Anthem - Harold Faltermeyer and Steve Stevens. This is an excellent theme tune. There is no words to this, just excellent music. It was played briefly throughout the movie, before being fully played, at the end of it. This anthem lasts for 4:12 minutes and really makes this movie. It has a mixture of guitar and keyboard music through it, starts of slowly and gets faster and louder. An excellent movie, theme tune overall.

6. Hot Summer Nights - Miami Sound Machine: Another excellent song from the movie. This track is very fast flowing and a great, dance along to tune. The lyrics to it are good also and it tells a story of Summer. It fits into the Movies scene really well. This song lasts for 3:38 minutes.

7. Playing With The Boys - Kenny Loggins: Another great eighties sounding tune by Kenny Loggins. This is a great rock/pop tune with great worded lyrics to it. This track lasts 3:59 minutes. It is a fast beat track that has me bopping along to it and the tune is a catchy one, that will have you singing along also.

8. Lead On Me - Teena Marie: A great dance tune that fits the movie well. Its a very unusual and likable tune. This song lasts for 3:47 minutes. This is a really catchy dance tune and nicely sang by Teena Marie, which again helps make this Top Gun Movie.

9. Destination unkown - Marietta: A great rock/pop song that I personally love. It is fast moving with meaningful lyrics and fits well into the movie. It lasts for 3:48 minutes and has great guitar and keyboard sounds, played perfectly.

10. Through The Fire - Larry Greene: This is a great, fast, rock/pop song. It is well sang and the music is excellent throughout it. This track really suits the Top Gun movies scene alot. This track lasts for 3:46 minutes, has lovely lyrics to it, is a very catchy tune and has a very eighties style to it all.

~~Overall Opinion~~
Overall this "Top Gun" album is an excellent Soundtrack and I really would highly recommend it to everyone. It is a great mix of different 'lost hits' of this decade. It also is a great "driving the car" album, due to a lot of fast songs associated with the fighter planes in the movie, that really makes you think your car is one also. It really will bring back memories of long ago. I certainly have never grown tired of playing this soundtrack. I still listen to it while I am driving along, nearly every day. This certainly is one of the best soundtracks ever made and I am sure many others will agree with me. I really love it. Every single song, choosen for the Top Gun Movie, really fitted each of it's scenes perfectly and when ever you hear this soundtrack, it recaps on the movie so much. This Soundtrack really should be in everyones CD collection in my opinion, as it is outstanding. Overall, ten top tracks that help to make the "Top Gun Movie" really stand out.

Such a great film; I was in my last year of school when it was released. All the boys wanted to be fighter pilots and the girls just wanted to be with Tom Cruise!
