Advantages: Great soundtrack, fits the film perfectly
Disadvantages: No "You've lost that lovin' feeling"
Top Gun is one of my all-time favourite films, and this has to rank as one of my favourite soundtracks too. It fits the mood of the film perfectly, with some great tracks, the most notable being Take My Breath Away, from the decidedly one-hit wonders Berlin (whatever happened to them?!). The tracks on the album betray the age of the movie, with a distinct 80's feel to it. Dangerzone (by Kenny Loggins) is ideal for the scenes at the start of the film. The instrumental Top Gun Anthem is a great track, a real atmospheric number, used at various points throughout the film. Surprisingly, the classic Righteous Brothers track "You've lost that lovin' feeling" fails to appear on the soundtrack, which is a shame, considering it appears over the closing credits of the film, and is sung karaoke-style in a memorable scene in the movie. You should be able to pick up this soundtrack pretty cheaply these days, and I for one would definitely recommend it. Maybe it might not appeal as much to people who aren't that keen on 80's style rock music though.

- 11/12/00 I actually had the soundtrack bought for me as a present, thinking that "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling". Needless to say I was a bit surprised that it wasn't on the soundtrack. It should have been as (IMHO) it accompanied a couple of the most important moments of the film. |

- 08/11/00 The soundtrack for Top Gun is an absolute classic, but I'm surprised that "You've lost that lovin' feeling" isn't on the album. Still, I'm sure this is a 'must-have' soundtrack. |
