Advantages: Vocally beautiful and musically pretty.

Disadvantages: Boring, not really that applicable now and isn't the best album by this talented artist.

Only 19 at the time of recording this album, Sarah McLachlan's career took off after this album, leaving this one in her wake...often forgotten.

Although she has a really charming voice in this album, it is a far cry from the mature and sexy vocals we have heard from her more recently (Surfacing). In this album her voice is more whimsical in feel which works wonderfully with the celtic folk rock feel of the music. It's just a shame that this kind of music doesn't do much for me and the introduction to this album 'Out of the shadows' for me sums up everything that is boring about this album.

I can easily imagine this album as a soundtrack to a film like Willow and such like fantasy films although lyrically this album is far heavier than the sound gives it credit for (especially in the song 'Vox'). Her voice sometimes can be compared to Enya, Kate Bush and T'pau.

The songs have a real 80s ballad feel to them that I am unsure works as well now as it did then, even with the whole 80s revival going on. But that's not to say that this artist isn't talented, I just dont really feel convinced by this album and dont really think it has great listenability.

Summary: Outdated, lacking the maturity she shows in later albums.
