Advantages: all the hits

Disadvantages: some fillers

Ah, the wonderful Martika! Popular many moons ago, at a time when Kylie was rife and Rick Astley was just fading out of memory, Martika was making her mark on the UK music scene. This album collects her biggest hits to date.

'Toy Soldiers' will strike a chord with many, as chavvy teen boys will notice it has that 'bit from Eminem' in it. Eminem ripped her off, chavvy teen boys, so take note and bow down to the might of Martika. The song is beautiful, elegant and also bold with the way it delivers the chorus, a fine start to the album.

She strays into dodgy pop territory for 'I Feel The Earth Move' but brings the song up to date with some feisty vocals and sexy growling. You don't feel the earth move, but you might feel your knees quiver a little. In a similar vein is 'More Than You Know' whoch could have easily been Kylie's seventh hit single, all poppy and inoffensive.

I adore 'Martika's Kitchen' which has a funky almost jazzy vibe going on, she she sings about cleaning the dishes. All very domesticated, dear. It is a refreshing change in direction.

If you fancy something calm and sensual, then 'Love Why Will Be Done' will do the trick. Moody vocals and overtly sexual beats are the order of the day, hardly surprising seeing that the titchy purple god Prince penned the piece. This is definitely Martika at her most sophisticated and the track is a perfect soundtrack to warming up a dinner party or to play when you need to seduce a loved one by candlelight.

Hardcore fans are catered for with a club remix of 'Earth Move' and a suspect Japanese version of 'Toy Soldiers,' which makes sense as Martika was huge in Japan, so best to cover all bases. I feel these are more filler songs though and not really needed.

The album has 15 tracks and some bland cover artwork. I recommend dipping into the ones I have picked out.

Summary: poppy

Never mind the chavvy teenage boys - I loved that song! I was actually a teenage boy when slow dancing to that at a summer dance LOL. 8^)
