Extreme Music From Women

The final album I decided to endure that was released by Susan Lawly Records was "Extreme Music from Women", I pretty much knew what I was in store for because I'd bought the Africa and Japan parts of the series as well and had been utterly stunned by the terrible "music" on them. The experimental electronic music comes across as a mixture of fuzz, buzz and distortion, it's hard to describe it as anything more than annoying, the title of the album comes across as rather vague but don't be fooled into thinking it's either metal or just slightly eccentric music - it's an assault on the ears! A few weeks ago I was impressed with The In-Kraut Vol.1 and made an effort to have a listen to the later volumes. Somehow I've ended up listening to the 3rd volume before the 2nd one, again it's a compilation of German musicians or in some cases foreigners going for a funky 60s psychedelic sound in Germany. My favourite tracks of the album have to be the psychedelic Belgian/German combo Daisy Clan's track "Glory Be", there's also an interesting semi-orchestral version of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love", The album fuses a list of tracks in different styles from a psychedelic garage sound through to funk, soul and even a bit of early disco, it ...

I thoroughly enjoyed Vol. 1 of The In-Kraut selection but was disappointed with the 3rd volume, it was touch and go whether I went ahead and listened to Volume 2 but I'm glad I did. The In-Kraut are compilations of funky and psychedelic music from Germany, there was quite a movement at the same time as Kraut-rock. There's not a great deal traditionally German about the tracks and they generally have more in common with US garage rock or early funk but there's numerous catchy work in here. Volume 2 has more in common with Volume 1, there are few of the funky but elongated disco numbers that can be found on Volume 3 but instead some raunchy guitar playing, catchy vocals ...
