Introduction. :::::::::::::::::::: Sash is one of the kings of euro pop. With many hits in the UK and the rest of the world his hits include, La Primarvera, Encore une fois, Ecuador and Mysterious Times. This third album which follows after the previous albums, It’s My Life and Life Goes on, once again is crammed full of dance hits and also reunites one of his older collaborations that being Tine Cousins in the smash hit “Just Around the Hill”. The Album Tracks. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: 1. Rock the Block [ 3:46 ] The opening track bursts onto the scene with a tunnel effect and a creepy male voice saying ‘Rock the Block’. “Rock the Block” is a great start to this album. The female voice in this song contrasts with the male voice well. This song is rather fast in pace and is a great dance track, certainly one for the clubs. The song is reminiscent of Ecuador and the voices that are used in the song are from Sasha Lappessen, Michael Williams and Deborah Cameron. 7.5/10 2. Adelante [ 6:46 ] Adelante was one of the first releases off the album and was a top 10 hit. Many radio presenters including Dr Fox as I recall kept on changing the word ‘Adelante’ in the track and would often shout ‘Smelly panties’ which seemed funny at the time. This is the extended version that is on the album. It begins rather quiet until a mans voice enters talking in a foreign language, there is a strong echo that is put on the voice which makes the song effective, the pulse and tune of the song gradually gets louder until it explodes into the chorus. The chorus includes the word sounding like ‘Le viva la viva’ this again is a great track and the accordion type part that is used in the song is also effective in creating and maintaining interest. 8.5/10 3. With My Own Eyes [ 4:03 ] This was the last track that was released off the album, it
also was a UK hit and included the voice of Inka. The words ‘With my own eyes, I saw a light shining so bright’ opens the track. The female voice of Inka is good in the song and the accompaniment from Sash on the various synthesised instruments as well as the string beat and dynamics, work well in putting the song together. There are good effects in the track including the watery type sound of a water tap dripping as well as the heavily computerised sounds of strings. 8.5/10 4. Show Me the Right Way [ 3:54 ] This track has a nice intro and then claps are added, the track then seems to change completely from the start. The theme that was used in the intro is then used again in the song but usually in a lower and different key. Again, strong beats are evident in the track and this song has hardly any vocals apart from the odd ‘Show me the right way’ here and there. About 1:20 into the track, the song then progresses to include more lyrics, in a way the first 1:20 could be said to have been a long intro and log it was! The vocals are sung by Ricardo De Tornato and his voice compliments the song. 7/10 5. Le Soleil Noir [ 3:52 ] This track as the title suggests is in French, like the number one hit ‘Encore une fois’ the female vocals are in french and is reminiscent of that track as well as La Primavera as it has the same type of rhythm and beats. This song is sung by Sabine Ohmes and is not my favourite on the album. The song does get better as it progresses as the b.p.m (beats per minute) increases leading up to a dynamic peak in the song. 7/10 6. Just Around the Hill [ 3:32 ] This top ten track did surprisingly bad in the charts only reaching about number 10 but this is my favourite Sash song of all time. The album version of this song is a lot more mellower and slower than the single version of which I prefer as it was much more fuller and had stringer beat as well as emotive responses in th
e voice from old favourite Tina Cousins. This song contrasts with the previous fast and strong beat track and adds a nice reflective mood to the album. The song has a nice acoustic guitar accompaniment and Tina’s voice is superb on this track although I do recommend you listen to the single release if you can. A great song . 9.5/10 7. Tell Me Now [ 3:35 ] This track seems much more earlier 90’s in feel also more like Dario G. The tune and beats as well as the vocal part all remind me of earlier dance tracks. If I didn’t know whom this was by, I wouldn’t have guessed it was by Sash! The vocal part is sung by Ca$h. This song to me is nothing special, it’s just surprising that this is by Sash and that is the only surprise in this song really. 6.5/10 8. Trillenium [ 5:22 ] Although the namesake of the album, “Trillenium” is surprisingly to me, an instrumental track. The soft pulse and various goings on gradually grow in strength and also other elements are incorporated into the song as it progresses. The song then moves onto to include strong drum beats and solo parts definitely reminiscent of new dance sensation Played Alive. Not my cup of tea really this track. 6/10 9. Halleluja [ 3:58 ] Sung by Deborba Cameron again and Ca$h, this song is more upbeat and is gospel influenced. Bells are evident keeping in step with the theme. The song basically is about giving praise to various things in life but such things that are mentioned make the song rather stupid like ‘Thank you for shopping malls and one way streets’. On the other hand giving praise to these things such as safe sex and a peaceful world are worthwhile. The song to me really is not worth while as it is basically a list of Thank you’s that are sung out in order and then they sing Halleluja. This to me is a pointless and rather tedious song. 4/10 10. Together Again [3:43 ] This is one of my favourite n
on-releases. It has a nice beat as well as a great chorus this is good euro pop sung by the strangest name I’ve ever heard, Bla Ojne. Where did he get these people from! The planet Zog!!! This is a simplistic but entertaining song. The piano part is also good in the song. The backing vocals in this track help give a fuller and nicer refreshing sound to the song. I like this track 8.5/10 11. Destination Unknown [ 3:58 ] A rather mysterious opening leading into a tune which reminds me of an ABBA track with the string section and piano playing like in ‘The Winner Takes it all’. The song then changes rather quickly into a dance track. I like the keyboard or piano accompaniment on this track. Like the Trillenium track, this track is again an instrumental track which in my view is much better than the previous one. This song tends to tell more a story and gives you the feeling that it is actually progressing somewhere. 7/10 12. Multiply Teaser [ 5:39 ] This track has a strange opening with a rather un-identifiable beat opening it. A rather scratchy and off-pitch tune is evident in this track which is not a nice sound and consequently lets the song down. Again this is an instrumental track and is in the league of the first, it is un-eventful and there really is no use in it being on this album like the namesake. 4/10 13. My Kind of Blues [ 3:23 ] This opening remind more of a cross between a Gorilaz track and the mission impossible theme. I don’t like this song, the sample that is used in the song is far too repetitive and has no crdeit at all really apart from the intro being repeated here and there. 4/10 14. Chill Out No.1 [ 4:24 ] A slow to start song begins with a whirring sound with a soft drone in the background. This is a relaxing intro which has little trickles that reflect a watery mood and then suddenly a computer type buzz beat is evidently growing I the background. This again is an inst
rumental track but it is different from the rest, it is softer and more reflective as well as calming. This track would be a nice track to relax to in the bath or before going to bed as its really easing and calming. This track was a surprising ending which I expected to end on a bang rather than a calming mood. A quite different track. 7.5/10 The Verdict. :::::::::::::::::: I was so eager to get this album as I was fond of Sash’s song but this album was a let down. It was the first album I had bought of his and thought it would be the best but apart from the releases and some other good tracks, this album is rather disappointing. There are far too many instrumental track on there for a start and apart from 1 or possibly 2 of them out of the 4, the rest are not worth being on here. The album would have been better without some of the tracks that have a lower than 5 rating as so that is why this album gets a 6.5 out of ten. The releases are great but sadly the rest of the album fails to reflect this. I would recommend though getting the single version of Just Around the Hill as it is a great track to have and you wont get bored of it!
