Premium Review ELP Grow Up At Last ! (125 words)

Rating:

70s supergroup Emerson, Lake and Palmer present this double CD taken from their California Jam concert in 1974 and the 1997/8 tour. Typical of the progressive stadium rock of the era, the 70s concert offers three long tracks that overstay their welcome with self-indulgent solos that seem to be there just for the sake of it. ...

...Emerson, Lake and Palmer to bring you yet another quality album. Based around the song Tarkus (20 mins long!!) it is one of the top 3 ELP albums, others being ELP and Brain Salad Surgery. evocative of the death and destruction conjured up by that crazy armadillo picture. Greg Lake sings beautiful vocals in the slower passagesand the lyrics to this, a little nonsensical as per most of the genre, are still effective and very rhythmic; but it s Emerson s wild and frenetic keyboard jams that really feel as if they can do anything that always excite me and keep me coming back for more 20+ stunning minutes. By contrast the second side of the record has almost nothing worthwhile to listen to - as is so often the way with ELP they didn t seem capable of writing a complete album and my interest tends to wane after the rather boring jeremy ...
