There has always been a cinematic quality to the Tindersticks music, their second eponymous album in particular sounding like it could be the soundtrack to a French melodrama; the rain drenched orchestral backdrops to their ballads conjuring up images of unrequited love, doomed affairs and general hopelessness. They specialise in what you could call the aesthetic of personal tragedy, and are best listened to with a bottle of whisky, a packet of fags and a barely contained desire to destroy everything you hold dear, just to see the pattern their broken pieces make.
