Advantages: Jolly catchy tunes, clean character

Dave Dudley is an artist that had so far been unknown to me, so I was keen to give this hit single collection between 1963-73 a listen. The first thing noticeable about the album is that the style of singing is quite similar to Johnny Cash, booming vocals resonate your ear holes and make you pay attention to the stories being told through song in a comical, serious and at times very touching way depending on the track.

The lyrics are catchy, put together so they fit the storylines of certain songs, remain witty and powerful yet rhyme perfectly. There are hints of Elvis too but where as those rockers had a reputation as a bit of a bad boy, Dave Dudley seems like a very good American type chap - a man who is always clean but never uses too much water!

His band support him extremely well and the guitar playing is divine throughout. Dudley comes across as a patriotic man with good morals and intentions through his lyrics. Some of the songs go on the gooey side and would be classed as "sweet love songs", these tend to be backed up with idyllic backing vocals.

His array of trucker songs are the ones that really want you to get out on the road and have some fun though. This is pleasant music that breaks no barriers but is entertaining, easily approachable, warm and inviting to the listener. If you are in to catchy country stuff then this about as good as it gets.
