enough for me. On this album, they remind me at times of the B52s, and mid-80s REM, so somehow they seem to have achieved a more Southern (US) sound (Talking Heads hail from New York; REM and B52s from Georgia). Musically, this is easier to listen to than most of Talking Heads' other albums, and quite different from their 70s releases, which I have to say I prefer, but I still think "Little creatures" is the best of the later material. ...

br>The Talking Heads early period, with Eno as producer are for me the most interesting of their career and yet most of their albums have only one of two really good songs and then the rest are good but nothing really new and fresh. When I was a student I started getting into them a bit and HMV was selling their albums in the sale for a fiver each, so then armed with my student discount I was paying about £4.50 each and so I bought most of their back catalogue, most of which I enjoyed but if I had to throw them all away and keep one the choice would not be a difficult one. With the explosion of punk just weeks from fading away, and prog-rock being pretty much dead and burried, the new wave of art-school rock, post punk and 'white man's' funk came knocking at the door. On this album, '77, released in september 1977, this new movement presented itself. Although it did very little to disturb the charts on both sides of the atlantic, in retrospect fits in beautifully with the cronology of music. It's as fast as punk, as funk as funk and soul, and has a certain advant garde, without being pretentious.
