Advantages: Originality, All brilliant songs
Disadvantages: None
After the transition from a promising R&B album to a successful deep and moving record, everybody expected 'M!ssundaztood: Part Two' for a new album - instead they got 'Try This', and nobody's complaining.
It's harder, rockier, edgier, and in some people's opinions, better than its predecessors.
The album kicks off with ‘Trouble’. A rock and country mix with a western-style video; this track is a perfect opening for the album.
Secondly comes ‘God Is A DJ’. This track has been hailed ‘Get The Party Started – The Sequel’. An insanely catchy dance tune, with some good messages thrown in for listeners.
‘Last To Know’ is the next song, demonstrating the much more rockier side of Pink. There may be a little too much swearing for some people, but the lyrics again contain some important messages, and also show that Pink hasn’t lost any of her anger that takes her songs up to the next level. The video of the track shows footage from her 2004 tour.
The next track off the album is entitled ‘Tonight’s The Night’ and is just a fun song about going out and having fun with your friends.
Song number five is ‘Oh My God’ and features the voice of Peaches. Pink herself describes this song as her ‘sex song’, and when you listen to it you can see why, but the song still works and comes across very well.
‘Catch Me While I’m Sleeping’ is track number six, and was rumoured to have been written for ‘M!ssundaztood’. This ballad-like song demonstrates Pink’s amazing voice, and shows how diverse she is, being able to slip from one music style to another.
It is on ‘Waiting For Love’, though, that Pink really showcases her voice. Her power and tone combine perfectly to create a fantastic track. Really catchy with great lyrics.
The eighth song on ‘Try This’ is called ‘Save My Life’ and is incredibly well written. It tells of a girl who is addicted to drugs but too ashamed to tell anybody about it, and was nominated for a PRISM award.
The next track is called ‘Try Too Hard’ and it’s a very catchy song, sending out the message that you should be yourself and not try to conform. A really rocky track with a great melody.
‘Humble Neighbourhoods’ is the tenth song, and is almost a rap/rock song, with a great chorus and a beat that gets into your head and won’t leave.
Song eleven is called ‘Walk Away’ and has a smooth melody throughout the song, and very catchy lyrics.
‘Unwind’ is the name of song twelve, and is possibly my favourite track on the album. Pink originally wrote it about Janis Joplin but found that it applied to herself so much that she adapted it slightly. Incredibly catchy tune with great lyrics.
The thirteenth song on the album is ‘Feel Good Time’ and was released as the official soundtrack song for ‘Charlie’s Angels 2’. A great song to sing and dance along to, and great for the summer.
Track fourteen is called ‘Love Song’ and is beautiful. It’s not one of those typical songs where girl meets boy and they fall in love; it focuses of the fear of getting hurt. This is another track where Pink shows off her voice well.
After ‘Love Song’ there is a hidden track called ‘Hooker’, which is basically poking fun in a way that only Pink can do. In my opinion, she’s the only artist who can sing ‘I’m a poet and I know it’ and get away with it.
Overall, this is one of the best albums I have ever heard and I recommend it to everybody. Also it has left me wondering what Pink’s going to do next, but I don’t doubt that it’ll be brilliant.
