Advantages: It's Pink???

Disadvantages: Not as we know it

**Introduction**

After reviewing Pink's new album Funhouse I thought it would be a good idea to review all of her previous albums to keep up with my plan to review all of the albums from most of my favourite artists. I have chosen to review Try This which she released in 2003 as her third album after her two previous albums Can't Take Me Home and Mizzundastood.

**Try This**

On Try This Pink attempts to recreate the same rock style of Mizundastood whilst also developing that sound with a more electronic feel in some places. Try This is her Third album and she again works with Linda Perry and Billy Mann who co-wrote on her previous album Mizzundastood, The album features production from John Fields, Tim Armstrong, billymann, Jonathan Davis, Linda Perry, Damon Elliott and finally William Orbit.

1.) Trouble

This fast paced pop rock track gets the album off to a great start, I remember when I first heard this I wasnt too keen on it but after a few listen's really grew on me. This is a very catchy and superbly flowing track. A great start to the album.

2.) God Is a DJ

Suprisingly this was co written with Jonathan Davis from Korn. It really does not sound like a track he would do. It opens with a soft guitar and then the catchy beat comes in. This is an interesting pop rock/dance track which has a nice feel but doesnt quite reach it's full potential.

3.) Last To Know

This track opens with an electro sound and then the acoustic guitar joins the party. The track then takes a change and then the track is plunged into a fantastic uptempo mix of electro and pop rock that Works really well.

4.) Tonight's The Night

This opens with a funky old style Stevie Wonder like riff and then the electric guitar comes in. This has more than a 70's soul feel due to the horns and soulful guitars. One of the best tracks on Try This there's no doubt about it.

5.) Oh My God

This track features Peaches from Iggy Pop fame, Peaches provides a decent vocal performance on her part and does sound a little bit like Nelly Furtado. A very interesting track that works well.

6.) Catch me while I'm sleeping

This bluesy track is co written by Linda Perry and is one of the best on the album and carries on the superb partnership they have developed together. One of the best tracks on the album there's no doubt about that.

7.) Waiting for Love

This opens with a warm sounding acoustic guitar and Pinks gentle hums. The drum beat moves around well and although Pink's vocals arent at their best she still manages a good vocal that works well on the track.

8.) Save My Life

This opens with some bluesy guitar notes and then the beat comes in, This is a track with Pink talking to her friends asking them to help her. This is a decent track that lacks a little grit that her best songs have.

9.) Try too hard

This is an uptempo rocky track which has a good catchy feel with a decent chorus, One of the better of the rockier songs on the album but not as good as the best on her previous album.

10.) Humble Neighborhoods

I was suprised when I found that Pink co-wrote this track as I was sure it was a cover from the 1980's from the sound. This is probably Pink at her worst creatively. It just does not work as well as any of her best.

11.) Walk Away

This track opens with a Bass Guitar riff which sounds like it was composed by Red Hot Chili Peppers Flea and then the track moves into the guitar which sounds like Every breath you take by The Police. The track then develops into a decent track which doesnt quite have the spark.

12.) Unwind

This is a decent enough pop rock track with some nice bass hooks but this song again falls short of the Pink we know. Her vocals are strong and the music is decent but there is just something lacking.

13.) Feel Good Time

This is the track which features dance producer William Orbit and is one of the worst singles she has released it just does not work well as it is too much of a mix of styles it just gets lost in between. And the worst thing is that it was written by Beck.

14.) Love Song

This is the best track of the album and it is only 2.29 and appears as a hidden track at the end of Unwind. A gentle acoustic ballad with a punchy beat about writing a love song for the first time.

15.) Hooker

This is a tirade against a woman for being a hooker. If only she channeled the anger in a better way then this album would be in line with her other albums. A shame.

**Overall**

This is the worst album Pink is ever going to release, You can tell she was not in the right place when she recorded this album and it shows. A couple of the tracks on here could be used as bonus tracks on her other albums I suppose but This really is an overall poor effort. I would rate this album 3 and a half stars if I could but I shall have to rate it three stars on here as there is no way it is worth four.
