Elton's best album, a double with very few songs that sound like filler. It very much reflects the 70s, with at times a glam flavour (indeed this is the subject matter of "Bennie & the Jets" ); cod-reggae ("Jamaica jerk off") already used by Paul McCartney & Wings; and songs which may well have influenced artists later in the 70s, like The Rubettes ("Your sister can't twist but she can rock n roll") and Meatloaf (all the uptempo numbers). There are many musical styles on here. "Saturday night's all right for fighting" sounds very like The Who (who recorded their own version of the song for the "Two rooms" tribute). Which ...
