Heavily influenced by Joy Division and the CBGB's punk scene, Interpol are one of the more interesting acts to come out of New York in the last decade (other noteable acts being The Strokes and Vampire Weekend). The songs contained herein are generally dark and brooding, atmospheric guitars chiming away and Vocals as low in the mix as they are in the frequency spectrum. It is similar to the Editors first album in as much as it has that Joy Division vibe, both acts are very different though. If I were to choose between the two I would choose Interpol everytime. New York indie rockers Interpol's debut album is a modern day classic. Interpol, along with the likes of The Arcade Fire, The Killers, Kings Of Leon and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club have been instrumental in the "new wave" of music coming out of America during the last decade. Turn On The Bright Lights gets its ingredients from English goth rock of the eighties and mixes it all up cleverly so that you can't actually compare any of Interpol's songs to bands like The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, Joy Division and The Smiths.
