      Tuskegee - Lionel Richie

When it comes to love songs and treating a woman you love with respect, Lionel Richie is your man. He has had so many hits its crazy and you will probably be familiar with just about all of them.

According to an article I read, this album is described as such, "Lionel Richie proves that you can go home again with his new album, Tuskegee, a collection of 13 of his international hits performed as duets with today's country music superstars, and it feels even better than he hoped. Tuskegee represents a full-circle moment for the international icon who has returned to his Southern roots to create an album that serves as a highlight of his unforgettable body of work that touches people of all backgrounds, faiths and ages around the world."

I was so glad I came across this album as I don't believe it was that widely marketed and now I see on Amazon that you can purchase it for £3, well do it, its the best £3 on a music album you will spend. If you love Lionel Richie songs, you will love this album. The album was released on March 5, 2012 through Universal Music Nashville.

After I did a bit of digging I actually came to find that the name of the album, Tuskegee is actually the name of the town in Alabama where Lionel was born and grew up. It feels like this is his way of giving back and saying he is proud of his roots and where he came from. Its in the American deep south and there is plenty of that feel and music in here. In fact, according to an article I read, "Tuskegee is where he discovered that he was a songwriter, the place where he was inspired to write his first hits. "My stories are from my growing up," he says. "My titles 'Sail On' and 'Easy,' they're all from my growing up. Now of course, growing up in Tuskegee had a great deal to do with it because that's simple life. It's not a complicated life down there. You're happy, you're mad, you're sad, you're glad, you party.
"I'm going back to the beginning of where I wrote all of these songs in the first place," he says. "It's just fitting that this album would be called Tuskegee. What this album basically did for me was give me the opportunity to discover those characters that I thought I was going to forget - those childhood memories - but those are in those songs.""

I think some of the collaborations and the people he has chosen to sing with is just pure brilliance. The voices work so well together and as a lover of country music anyway, this has fast become one of my favourite albums. It combines all Lionel Richie's classics and tweeks them, they are still in essence the same song but worked a bit differently and brilliantly and probably would be hits again in this format. Anyone who is anyone is country music has collaborated on this album and that in itself is testament to just how well respected Lionel is in the music industry. For example, You have Kenny Rogers singing Lady, Willie Nelson singing Easy (the perfect person to sing this song in my opinion) and Jimmy Buffet singing All Night Long!

One of my favourite tracks on this album is Stuck on You, track three, which Lionel sings with Darius Rucker. I had actually never heard of him before but his voice is amazing and at one point he sings the line, "Stuck on You, " in an amazingly raw powerful country voice and its just gorgeous.

I also really enjoy the song Endless Love with Shania Twain, the queen of country music. She has a beautiful "love song" voice anyway so to sing this with Lionel is a great pairing in my opinion.

Tuskegee is described as, "a long-overdue musical homecoming and a testament to his lasting legacy and timelessness of his songs." I for one will be listening to this album for a very long time and its definitely proved to be a lasting legacy for me.
