Jamie Cullum is the blue-eyed boy of british jazz and rightly so, with his down to earth attitude and great style that has brough him to the attention of many critics and music fans alike. This is his second album and builds on the last by covering a few classics and standards in his own piano style. But some of the covers do leave you wanting someyhing more, and a few more originals would have been nice, but his follow-up Catching Tales provides this, and i would throughly recommend it to anyone who likes this but wants more. at first listen and appearence of jamie cullum i thought "here's another person waiting to rip of the rat pack and make a quick dollar" - how wrong was I! jamie cullum grew and grew on me, more every time i listened to his tracks and i became a big fan of the music he produced and essentially didnt rip off! On the album there is a fair numbers of covers, i won't deny that. Despite this they are completely re-born and re-vamped so that all types of listners, from those who followed the rat pack to those who are just starting to introduce themselves to jazz. 1. Playing Jamie cullum's third album, twently something, evokes similar feelings to those fo a child playing with a jack in the box- everytime you are delighted, and everytime suprised anew by his irreverence and his playful yet undeniable talent. At just 23, and a cute (for his face is handsome enough to get away with this) 5 feet and four inches tall, Jamie is the baby of Jazz. And thats no bad thing to be. He's shaking it up, doing his own thing, whilst impressing jazz afficionados and newcomers alike.
