**Introduction**

This is the debut album of Singer/Actor Tyrese Gibson. This self titled debut was released in September 1998 when Tyrese was 19 years old. This album featured three singles, these were Nobody Else, Lately and Sweet Lady. At the time of this release Tyrese was three years away from his film debut in Baby Boy. Over the years he has been able to balance his music and movies equally well.

**Tyrese**

1. Nobody else

This was the first single he released and is a funky fast paced track which has a very catchy feel, from the first few bars of this track you hear what a voice he has. A strong voice that is fine with just about any kind of music he tries. An emotive vocal is the main part of this songs vocal.

2. Tell me, tell me

This is a laidback midtempo R&B cut which although has a nice feel to it is largely forgetable compared to the best tracks on the album, Not bad though but there are some really great tracks on here which this doesnt reach.

3. Promises

This is a nice laidback track which has a smooth feel to it, One of the best tracks on the album and I am sure this will be one of your favourites on this album.

4. Sweet lady

This is a lovely ballad which has a superb laidback feel. Tyrese really shines vocally on the track. This is about proving to someone how you really feel and showing them that you will be there for them when they really need you.

5. Lately

This is a brilliant ballad which has a great feel thanks to the gentle string background and soft drum beat. I love the way the backing vocals come in and then phase out and then come back in. One of his best ballads, this track is about looking back on your relationship and having a great feeling about how the relationship is going at that point.

6. Give love a try

This track is a funky track with a shuffling beat and some nice electronic sounds which leads the song into the opening vocals. This is a tender midtempo ballad which again showcases his smooth vocals. A very fine effort to combine the emotive vocals and firm beats.

7. Ain't nothin' like a jones

This is a funky midtempo hip hop/R&B crossover which has a nice keyboard hook and some taut beats with Tyrese's smooth vocals, This is one of the best non ballads he recorded on the album. It has a very nice flow.

8. You get yours

Although this isnt anywhere near the best on the album it is still an ok track which I like to listen to when I listen to the album. Has a nice beat and a catchy feel but not quite the spark to keep up with the best of these tracks.

9. Do you need

This is rather the same as You Get yours, not really in the way it sounds but just that it doesnt quite have that spark that the best tracks have. Don't get me wrong I do like the track but it's no Lately or Stay in Touch.

10. Taste my love

Another one that doesnt quite live up to the best tracks on the album, This has a nice beat aswell and some nice vocals but is nowhere near the best he has done on this album and his whole career.

11. I can't go on

This is such a beautiful ballad about a relationship ending which you really didnt want to end. A touching track for anyone who has broken up with someone they were so in love with. This song is sung superbly by Tyrese and he really showcases the emotion in his voice. Superb.

12. Stay in touch

This is a brilliant ballad about his mother who he lost contact with after a family falling out. A superb ballad about the way he feels about his mother and what she has done for him in his life as a single mother after his father left when he was only four. A touching tribute.

**Overall**

This is a very very good debut album which hints at the great potential he has now shown but there are a few tracks which are not as good as the others which can lead to skipping. He has since Ironed out this problem and his albums are now more balanced and there are not the poorer tracks anymore.

Summary: Good debut
