Advantages: A pretty good greatest hits
Disadvantages: Really just a rehash of their previous greatest hits plus 3 new tracks .
Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart are back. But, isn't this just a rehash of their previous greatest hits? Oh dear, i sense a little cashing in going on!
-----Greatest Hits again?!-----
It's a shame when a good band like the Eurythmics just fires out another greatest hits album. You would have thought that by now there would have been enough new material for a fresh album. With the talent of this duo, you wonder what the motivation was for this album. Who is it for? Fans will have to buy it for the new tracks, and the casual listener will probably buy it for the "ooh i remember that one" track listing.
-----Who are they?-----
Annie Lennox. Scottish born female vocalist with such range and depth to her voice she could make the yellow pages and any 118 directory enquiries service sound interesting.
Dave A Stewart. Fantastic musician, songwriter and producer. I am sure I once heard he "suffered" from Paradise Syndrome. A rare medical condition where the sufferer gets depressed because their life is so wonderful they expect bad things to happen. I haven't been able to confirm this, but I am POSITIVE I remeber hearing him talking about it in an interview.
This duo who started out in The Tourists, have come a long way over the years. Each has had a very sucessful solo career and as a band they have seen chart sucess many times as well. Dave Stewart is notoriously private, whereas Annie would rather be in the limelight. On this album there is no denying the quality of their back catalogue of hits.
1. I've Got A Life
2. Love Is A Stranger
3. Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)
4. Who's That Girl
5. Right By Your Side
6. Here Comes The Rain Again
7. Would I Lie To You
8. There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart)
9. Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves - Eurythmics & Aretha Franklin
10. It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back)
11. When Tomorrow Comes
12. Thorn In My Side
13. Miracle Of Love
14. Missionary Man
15. You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart
16. I Need A Man
17. I Saved The World Today
18. 17 Again
19. Was It Just Another Love Affair
-----Round up-----
Although there is some good new material "was it just another love affair" slow ballad with Annie singing harmonies with herself and "I've got a life" has made it to the charts already. I would really liked to have seen a collection including some of their solo stuff. Then again I suppose that would limit the sales of Annie's Solo greatest hits and take away from here royalties.
Another thing, I can't really tell where the remastering comes in? I think "they" just put that on an album to make you think that something amazing has happened since you last heard the songs.
-----Price and availability-----
CD about £8.99 from Amazon and high street retailers. Can be bought from some of the supermarkets as part of a price war on chart CD's at the moment so shop around.
Thanks for reading.
Summary: Good album.Could have been better though

- 29/11/05 I love the Eurythmics but I thought this was a diasppointing release - I am surprised two principled musicians like Lennox and Stewart would do this, frankly. Dave Stewart is an absolute star - it was great when he went a bit loopy a few years back and claimed he was the rightful Duke of Nothumberland! Total star...Fiona |
