Premium Review Ultimate Collection - Peter & Gordon: Nice 60s pop duo (421 words)
by - written on 16/04/09 (Very useful, 41 readings)
Rating:

Recently I've been catching up on some "golden oldies", classic music from the 50s and 60s.. whilst my knowledge is pretty good on the music of the said years, I wasn't around then and therefore there is the occasional track or band which passes me by. Somehow, I hadn't heard of Peter & Gordon and the name sounded a bit like a gay Lancastrian couple to me! The twosome aren't the most visually blessed, Peter Asher wearing thick rim glasses and the two sporting those cringeworthy barnets of the early to mid 60s. They let their voices do the talking as the duo manage to sing in a comfortable way which seems to combine power with melody resulting ...  Read the complete review

A must for fans only, returns with the same dry acoustic sound, strong singles. Not like Bella Donna and loses composure thanks to conflicting and confusing lyrics,

Great tracks, some new stuff for my collection, Heaton's voice A few more religious tracks than I'd like

It's got the original; it's a bit of group history Whose biggest hits?

Progressive Rock - 2009

Not commercially-centred, so plenty of "music" to listen to - plus a cracking voice Not commercially-centred, so received little airplay outside Ireland

the singles some weaker songs

Burn The Witch - Stone Gods
Brilliant vocals and some fantastically powerful instrumental work. Fans of The Darkness may find the music of Stone Gods a bit too full on.

Sign Of Truth - Dionysus
More fun power metal, with great production from Tobias Sammet. Nothing new here.

Sound Of Perseverance - Death
Hugely enjoyable and talented jazz-prog-death metal. Structurally screwed.

Sounds From A Bygone Age Vol.2 - Romica Puceanu
Some great recordings of rare tracks Misses some of Romica's best works

Spiritual Healing - Death
Perfects the early death metal style, and is ready to move on. Still a little repetitive once each song hits its stride.

Stab Wounds - Dark Fortress
Great melodic black metal for newcomers. Offers little to those already familiar with the genre.

Starfall - Dragonland
Successful experimentation. Lacks diversity.

Storm Of The Light's Bane - Dissection
Great songwriting, atmosphere, and riffs, powerful atmosphere, varied None

Stormblast - Dimmu Borgir
unique sound still a bit monotonous

Spiritual Black Dimensions - Dimmu Borgir
complex, dark a bit monotonous
