**Introduction**

I have mostly written music reviews on well known artists but as I listen to a huge amount of different music I have sometimes brought new artists to the members of dooyoo. I requested this album to be put up on Dooyoo to be reviewed as I wanted to let you all know about this album. This is one album that I reckon most of you would not have even heard of. So let me fill you in on a few details regarding the artist and this album.

**Uncle Sam**

Sam Turner or Uncle Sam as he is otherwise known is an American R&B singer who was discovered by the legendary R&B vocal harmony group Boyz II Men in the late nineties and was signed to their own record label Stonecreek Records which was distributed by Columbia Records. I first heard of Uncle Sam when I heard the single "I Don't ever want to see you again" which features Boyz II Men on backing vocals. After hearing this I wanted to hear more and searched for an album which I found on amazon.co.uk and I ordered a copy. Here's my verdict.

**His Voice**

Whilst he is not that well known don't be fooled into thinking he does not have the voice as he sure does. His voice is a smooth and emotive R&B vocal which can give you the tender moments aswell as the more forceful moments. He's not up there vocally with Boyz II Men but he does have a damn good voice all the same.

**The Album**

1.) Can you feel it

This is not a cover of the Jackson Five track but a funky midtempo track which opens the album rather well. It's rather catchy and has some good beats which make you want to tap your feet to the beat. Good start

2.) You make me feel like

This is a very good ballad which features a punchy drum beat and Uncle Sam's vocals understated yet emotive. This is not quite the best ballad on the album but it's up there with the better tracks.

3.) Throw your hands in the air

This is a midtempo track which has elements of new jack swing, it has a nice melody and moves along well but it's not as instant as the ballads on the album are. This could have been a great party track.

4.) Leave well enough alone

This reminds me a little of Ginuwine which works well, It's a ballad but with a difference, the slightly meatier beats work well to add something different to this track. It works rather well.

5.) Without lovin you

This is a very good ballad about showing someone how much you love them and what you are without them. This is one of the best tracks on the album and a good showcase of his smooth vocal talent. I like the combination of the firm beat of the bassline alongside the smooth vocals.

6.) Someone Like You

This ballad is about meeting someone and knowing that they are what you are looking for in a relationship. Best demonstrated by the lyrics "I need someone like you, to hold me oh so tight, I need someone like you". A good track which has a smooth feel.

7.) Tender Love

This is a slow ballad which starts softly and as the vocals come in you start to relax and really get into the song. This is a really flowing track which has a seductive quality about it with his smooth vocals shining all throught this track. This is One of the best tracks on the album.

8.) Think About Me

This has a mid tempo feel that reminds me a little of a Blackstreet or Next kind of vibe. This is a catchy track which has a nice flow but it does not have tyhe same spark of the best tracks on the album.

9.) Baby You Are

This is a gentle ballad about how you can't believe you are in a relationship with someone who's so perfect for you. This track flows really well and Uncle Sam showcases his emotive vocals along with some decent backing vocals from the backing singers. This is one of the best tracks on the album.

10.) Stop Foolin' Around

This is a smooth ballad which stays gentle despite the slightly heavier beat than usual. This is a decent track which leads into the final track well. Another decent track on the album.

11.) I Don't Ever Want to See You Again

This is without a doubt the best track on the album and a great closer, This track has a real emotional feel as you would want from the subject, The track is about finding out your partner has been cheating on you with your best friend. The backing vocals from Boyz II Men add a great touch and the spoken part by Michael McCary adds a deeper emotion. I would go as far to say that this is one of the best R&B tracks of the 1990's.

**Overall**

Whilst this album is not perfect, it does enough to hint at the talent that Uncle Sam surely has. There are a couple of gems on the album and no duds. This debut should have been followed up by a second album of more hits which showcased his vocal talent but sadly it did not happen. Believe me he has the talent he just needs that little bit of luck to continue his career in music as a solo artist.
