Advantages: mature, great songs, a mixture of many sounds

At the mention of the name Avril Lavigne many people just sigh with an annoyed tone and many criticise her. I think it is unfair to say Avril Lavigne is a terrible artist because she does write her own songs and help with the music. Avril Lavigne is a Canadian artist, this is her second album her first Let Go was very successul and by April 2003 in the UK it was confirmed 6x platinum. Avril used to consider herself a punk artist but honestly I would find this album difficult to place into one music genre because there are so many different sounds.

1.TAKE ME AWAY-This song begins with a solo like guitar strumming and then Avril's vocals become apparent. Her voice sounds shaky at times making it whiny and not very pleasant to listen to. At first I completely hated this song and at the chorus, I thought to myself why would she attempt to sing this. At the chorus she sings high pitched with a guitar backing her voice it is more shouting than singing at the chorus and then at the verse her voice softens again. I think this song is about a break up and getting through it but wanting to escape the upset. This song is not like anything from her first album which is good and this song did grow on me.
2.TOGETHER-This song begins with a piano being played and a faint voice. This song is not a favourite of mine at all, it is very basic and not a stand-out song. The music is bland and the soft piano does not compliment Avril's shouting vocals. The lyrics seem very simple and this song has nothing exciting about it. The piano becomes too repetitive throughout and I usually do not bother to listen to the full song because it does no justice to Avril's voice.
3.DON'T TELL ME-This was the first release we heard from Avril after a long break and this is also the first song she released from this album. I like this song it is relaxed and I like the sound. Avril sings well here and the guitar does not drown her out. I think this song had a grown up message to it and was well written, I think it is about her choosing not to sleep with someone because he was only looking for one thing. Given her target audience messages like this are probably more sensible for her listeners. I think this song showed more of Avril instead of her trying to hard to be known as rock.
4.HE WASN'T-I think this is a great song to liven up the album and it is very upbeat and a very typical Avril song but she can't be different for every song and this is the type she does well. A song that you cannot just listen to without wanting to get up and jump about to. Avril is never really someone who sings like every other artist, she has her own style, it sound like singing but also has a shouting sound to it. This song is broken up in to many different parts and it works really well. The song fades out still upbeat and perectly. All Avril fans will like this song.
6.MY HAPPY ENDING-This was her most recent release and second single from this album. I really like this song it is quite upbeat and Avril's voice sounds nice in this song. Once you learn the words to this song, you have to sing it, it is catchy and a great stand out song. This song is about a relationship that seemed great but did not end as happy as expected. I think the words are good for this song. She reaches some high notes in this song which she does with ease and shows off some better vocals.
7.NOBODY'S HOME-This is one of my favourite songs from the album although some might say it is quite depressing it is a song which has quite a fast rhythm considering it is not the happiest song. It begins slowly but then the guitar picks up and it kicks into life. I think Avril sings this song with real emotion and meaning. The music is great, mainly guitar and drums but it makes a great song. I hope she releases this song it shows a mature side to her singing and is very different from her other music. The meaning of this song is about someone who has nowhere to go or anyone to speak to she is alone in her problems.
11.FREAK OUT-This song is probably another of the more upbeat songs on the album. Her most rock sounding song, a lot of guitar. This song is not one you would expect great vocals on because it is more about the music. It is a feel good song and very loud. Great rhythm to it and it is repetitive but stands out most on the album. It is catchy and I liked it instantly. This song is about just letting go and not caring about anything and being free to just take in everything as it happens. A great song to near the end of the album.
This album is a mixture of so many music types and personal experiences from Avril. After listening to the album you feel like you have lived a part of Avril's life with her because her songwriting has really improved. I think this album definitely shows that Avril has grown up more since her last album. It can be bought online at cd-wow or play.com for a cheaper price.
I will be seeing Avril in concert on Thursday also and cannot wait where she will be singing most of these songs. So, judging from this great album which is perfect for Avril fans it should be great.
