With Deck’s sleek European-speaking-in-an-American-accent vocals it really re minds me of early 80’s disco pop and sounds great for not being ashamed of this! ‘Honeymoon’ was certainly not what I expected of the album, being intensely calm and having the fe...more

Rating:

This band first caught my eye on Jools Holland, with the lead singer dressed up in his bright-tie garb and being particularly great. I can’t remember what they were performing, but most likely it was ‘Too Young’. I had great expectations of this album, and I was disappointed at first, only to completely fall in love with it a few listens later. Phoenix come under that Euro pop thing that covers bands like Air, Daft Punk, Les Rythmes Digitales and Soulwax, but don’t really sound all that similar. Well maybe a little. They are French! Really Good and Unique Sound A few songs that I cannot cannot with

Party like it's 1994 people!! The album shamelessly recreates the 90's rave scene! Piranha stinks. Omen (Reprise) is POINTLESS!

Secret Christmas History - Autopsia
You might find it upsetting. It's dull.

Human Jerky - Cattle Decapitation
Better guitars than most grindcore. It's still the same old grindcore excrement.

Martyrium - Antestor
Bold, and a nice incorporation of doom and death styles into traditional black metal. Some songs are a little dull, and the last one a little preachy with its organs and thunderclaps.

C*nt - Blood Duster
Reasonable grindcore, for all of its twelve-or-so minutes. Flaccid and disappointingly softcore.

Bard's Song - Blind Guardian
It's a great old song. We didn't need five versions.

Aren't You Dead Yet - Carnal Forge
Fun thrash-death metal. Like a less good version of The Haunted.

Hordes Stood As One - Ancient Rites
Strong live performance, especially for fans of the 'Dim Carcosa' album. Not very representative of the band's albums as a whole.
