Advantages: plenty of house anthems
Disadvantages: artwork is dull
The Freemasons are perhaps more famous for their remixes than they are for their own material, but this album is a timely reminder that the duo are equally capable of belting out their own hits too.
Who are they:
Hailing from Brighton, Russell Small and James Wiltshire write and produce uplifting funky piano driven house music.
On this album:
Starting off with the amazing reworking of the Alanis Morrisette track 'Uninvited'. This is a haunting song with a superb piano driving it. It is atmospheric yet manages to retain the dancefloor sensibility that it needs. 'Rain Down Love' follows and this up and ups the ante further, thanks to some ferocious vocals and a storming chorus. It is a house anthem of epic proportions and the 'rain rain down' bit will stay lodged in your head.
The track which kickstarted their career was 'Love On My Mind' which boasts some moody and sultry vocals over a seventies style piano disco riff, perfect dancefloor fodder.
Other Highlights:
I really rate 'When You Touch Me' which benefits from powerful vocals and a great rhythm to drive it.
Verdict:
If you like quality funky house then this should be a must have purchase. What they do they do well. The production remains crisp and the tracks have an edge and don't fall into the trap of being too cheesy and predictable. One for the more discerning dance music fan.
Summary: polished classy house
