Burial's Untrue was sweeping through university dorm rooms, played late at night as groups of young people suddenly went 'Yes, this is what we've been waiting for'. Burial's dark dubstep from the depths of South London is really hard to define. Yes, it's dubstep in it's purest form, but it's really like nothing else you've ever listened to. You can tell that every track on this album has been made with an obsession for perfectionism. Dark beats, scratchy effects, beautiful echoes of lyrical voices- everything comes together in this album. William Bevan, aka Burial is a dubstep artist from South London. Dubstep is such an ecclectic genre now that simply describing this album as such will give you little idea as to what to expect. Burial's style incorporates drums closer to garage than some other dubstep artists. Distance fractures of singing, pads and an uncertainty of where the music will go or what comes next. Most of his tracks are permiated with a meloncholy. This album is like a sonic journey through Britains dark, grimey streets. Its difficult to pidgeon-hole the mysterious Burial. Dubstep? Electronic? Two-step garage? But why try? You could describe Untrue in a million words and still not come close to describing this truly amazing and innovative album. The identity of the man behind Burial was unknown untill around the time his Mercury prize nomination was announced last year. The seemingly ordinary Londoner William Bevan, seemed uninterested in the spotlight, instead allowing the music to speak for itself.
