Advantages: A couple of decent tunes

Disadvantages: Lots of weak tracks

The London and Sweden-based Indie Rock band Razorlight released their debut album "Up All Night" in 2004, and it came as their breakthrough record too as they brought with it hits such as "Somewhere Else", "Stumble and Fall" and "Golden Touch" as Johnny Borrell led them and came with the distinctive sound of UK Indie music from around 2003-onwards.

1. "Leave Me Alone"

Kicking this album off, you see that they beginning things in a typical way, in a style which you would tend to associate with their music, as they come with an up-tempo recording which has them bursting through with something energetic to get listeners interested with and to bring them in. However I saw it to be rather generic and it didn't offer all that much.

**Three Stars**

2. "Rock 'N' Roll Lies"

Moving things on a bit, here they get into what was their debut single. I have to admit that I wasn't actually aware of it until I went through this album, and I saw it as something which was nowhere near the standard of what you get from the first tune here, never mind an of the best-sellers from later material.

**One Star**

3. "Vice"

You get them dropping the follow-up to their extremely popular "Golden Touch" tune, and it was one which I wasn't personally all that impressed by as they get down to a rather slow one, which only really pulls out an sort of excitement through its chorus (but that isn't really all that either).

**One Star**

4. "Up All Night"

The pace s lifted with this song, and it should mean that it turns out to bring much more impressive results, but I couldn't say that this was really the case as they do things in a manner which I have to say wasn't doing enough to actually stands out as they try out new things half-heartedly and hardly develop anything into something really worth listening to.

**One Star**

5. "Which Way Is Out"

With this one they are seen to clearly make big changes in their approach with their rather calming beginnings meaning that it takes a while to really come together, and when it does, you see that it turns out to be a bit of a transitional one for them as they come with somethin with a bit more appeal with their alternative choices in how to compose the thing.

**Three Stars**

6. "Rip It Up"

This short one was their second single, and I felt that it was the first track to really do something which made me want to hear it more than once as they come with a Post-Punk kind of thing to show where their influences have come from and how they influence the way thy choose to go about performing unlike many others in the Indie game.

**Four Stars**

7. "Don't Go Back To Dalston"

Using a similar riff to another on this album, you see that here they get into one which has them keeping to the high-tempoed material and I felt that this I where they performed well as they keep you going through their exciting ways and strangely emotive composition in preparation for what is to follow on from it.

**Four Stars**

8. "Golden Touch"

This was the stand-out single from the album and for me; it is the band performing to their best standard. Personally, it was the only time in the album where I really cared what Borrell had to say in the song, and with him backed by a sort of "Impeach The President" break in the first verse, it really took me in.

**Five Stars**

9. "Stumble And Fall"

They drop another reasonably big one here with them keeping with the much more engaging ways by getting down with the speedier paced, and some freaky percussion to keep things rolling through as they lay down one which has all of its aspects working together effectively to make a well-developed song.

**Four Stars**

10. "Get In And Go"

This is one which has them getting into something which I wasn't really all that into as they choose to continue with the same high-paced material, but as Borrell gets into some strange mind-set and comes out with some freakish things as he sings, it really put me off it and took me back to the weak beginnings of the album.

**One Star**

11. "In The City"

You have them changing things up quite a bit here as you see that in it they calm things up significantly in order to bring out something which only really acts as a filler in the album as they do things in a rather unimpressive manner and just throw something rather plain together to make a track out of.

**One Star**

12. "To The Sea"

Beginning with an engaging chant, you see that here you get more of them apparently trying out new things, however after a while it becomes apparent that they are just moving back towards your general Indie work again to just annoy and put you off even more to show that the middle of the album has passed, and they won't return to that sort of style.

**One Star**

13. "Fall, Fall, Fall"

Here you see more of them getting further down towards the much more sombre music, and I must say that it really doesn't do what it supposed to (calm you dowm) as they do thing sin such an annoying samey manner which has been heard on so manner occasions here, and having it done in such a way makes it clear just how weak it is.

**One Star**

14. "Somewhere Else"

They end the album on a high with a big single from the album coming through here as a final burst to show that they have more quality in them here. it is a nice little one, and although the rest of the album has made me like it a little less, it stands as a strong, catchy one to lift it as they bring it to an end.

**Four Stars**

Although there are a couple of tracks that do stand out on the release as something to really take notice of, I have to say that on the whole I wasn't really too impressed by the release and I wouldn't be able to recommend the album (as it is) to anyone.
