The Libertines appeared from nowhere during 2002 and caputered the imagination of a lot of people with a retro style of rock music that sounded like it came from days gone by. Well even though after just one album it appears the band have already gone to pot with lead singer Pete Doherty appearing in court having broken into band mate Karl Barat's flat, to steal some cash to support an alleged drug habit. Well needless to say Pete is no longer in the band but this one album showed happier times for the band. But having released this debut album back when they were all still mates, the sound of The Libertines was probably at the best it has been. Now with a ... Read the complete review

The libertines are a band that have polarised opinion, often with the help of tabloid sensationalism, yet I still find it hard to believe that anyone who gives this album a listen, without any pre-formulated opinions, shall fail to identify with such a buoyant youthful energy. Being released in 2002 this was the quintessential album of my youth and much like many others began an unashamed idolisation of Doherty's poetic vision. When this came out it is easy to forget that the 'indie' scene as we now have come to know it was virtually non existant, the bands truly were independent and not simply NME fodder. On the back of this it is undeniable that the Libertines ... Read the complete review

It's a terrible shame that so many people see the headlines about Pete Doherty's infamous antics, and immediately associate everything he has ever touched as awful, drug addled nonsense. That phrase in particular may sound familiar, because it is the sort of thing cited time and again by his critics. Now, in no way do I agree with his behaviour, and I must admit that, at first, I was put off this album simply because of the notoriety surrounding it. However, when I learned that Doherty's partner in crime was one Carl Barat, whose Dirty Pretty Things are amazing, I took the plunge. Boy, oh boy, I'm mighty glad I did, too. Whoever it was written by, it's hard to ... Read the complete review

The Libertines perfectly capture the feelings of a troubled youth. The music is anarchic, catchy and full of energy and the raw barely there production only strengthens their sound. Track by track... 1. Vertigo ***** The buzzing guitar riff and dual lead vocals are a perfect beginning to the debut. The lyrics you should expect from The Libertines are just great. And the mismatch, messy guitar solo is top notch. 2. Death On The Stairs ***** Another catchy, potentially danceable tune with great lyrics 'Half of less than 50p', is a personal highlight. And the sharing of lead vocals is great and gives the song another dimension. Carl's ... Read the complete review

Hi guys. I've not written you lovely people a review for a very very long time, I come back finding that about 3 members have added me to their "People I trust List", ( Wow - I'm popular! Not a clue why, but still! ) my Alex Parks review has been crowned. ( How lovely of you guys! ) and that my joke of the day in my profile has been the same joke for months. And Victoria Beckham's a recording artist again. So, I return to make my mark on Dooyoo with this Libertines review. If I had to put these guys down in one phrase it would probably be The Strokes with Cockney Accents. No, more like The Strokes, after they've had about ... Read the complete review
