... absolutely breathtaking. I can relate to pretty much all of this album as it explores all the heartache (and happiness) that life can throw at you. Snow Patrol are great musicians and this is shown on their greatest hits album. No two songs sound the same as the band try to go down a different road which each track, making sure that the listener doesn't tire of hearing the same sound over and over. "Just say Yes" is an example of this as it's actually a dance track, which you wouldn't associate with SP. It's a ...more

I only became a fan of Snow Patrol back in 2004 when someone leant me their Final Straw album. After several listens I was certain that it was time for me to buy it for myself and since then they have become a favourite of mine. I think like a lot of people when I found that they were releasing a compilation of their songs I was a little disappointed. Usually it means they are either splitting up or their management wants more money. Also it's likely that big fans would own most of these songs anyway, but as this was a present I accepted it willingly! There are 30 songs in total, stretching across two discs. The alternative rock band has put together ...  Read the complete review

As it is coming up to Christmas it is time for all those Greatest Hits albums to hit the shelves! Snow Patrol are one of my favourite bands and this year they seem to have jumped on that bandwagon but they are doing something a little different. Up To Now is not just a typical Greatest Hits album. The album features tracks from Snow Patrol's 15 year music career and it is described as the bands most loved songs rather than just a collection of all the singles that they have released. Greatest Hit albums are usually about one thing, making money. Up To Now is such a nice change! 3 new tracks on there, a couple of covers and some songs by Gary ...  Read the complete review

Up To Now - The Best Of Snow Patrol - Snow Patrol: Cashing In or Bringing More To The Table? (465 words)

When I first heard that Snow Patrol were producing a greatest hits album I was a little disappointed. Although the band have plenty of material I was hoping for a completely new album. To my delight the boys did include 3 new songs 'Just Say Yes', 'Dark Roman Wine' and 'Give Me Strength'. The new tracks sound good and fit in well with the rest of the album. 'Just Say Yes' is a particular highlight and is quite different to what the band have done before. The song selection for the best of is quite well done, they haven't had a lot of chart success with the main exceptions being 'Run' and 'Chasing Cars' so this collection is more a selection of the band's ...  Read the complete review

The greatest "greatest hits" album, ever (256 words)
by popmusicfan - written on 18/12/11

What an album this is! I love this album. It features ALL of Snow Patrol's biggest (and best) hits from their first few albums (minus Fallen Empires). The CD does not have one bad song on it. You can play it through and through, you will never tire of it. The lyrics, the music, the emotion, they all tug at the heartstrings and Gary's beautiful voice makes even the slower songs sound absolutely breathtaking. I can relate to pretty much all of this album as it explores all the heartache (and happiness) that life can throw at you. 9 brilliant tracks, amazing lyrics, easy to listen to, lots of references to various things
1 weak track, not "radio friendly", maybe too clever in parts
No World For Tomorrow - Coheed and Cambria
Brings to an end a wonderful cycle of prog/rock/metal genius

Innovative, challenging, funny, brilliant
Not a single thing, this is the mutts nuts
Love - The Beatles
It's like the Beatles have returned.
We need another album... badly.
Andromeda Unchained - Anubis Gate
High quality and still accessible outer-space prog metal.
Some songs are too similar, and it lacks originality.
Silent Company - Black Majesty
Incredible guitar solos, and a great performance all-round.
Predictable and samey throughout, with few deviations.
Affirmation - Beverley Knight
Good overall album
Not many stand out tracks
Bend Sinister - The Fall
Slick production and great songs

Deadwing - Porcupine Tree
Musically diverse, yet holds together as an album. "Lazarus" is fantastic.
Perhaps "Arriving Somewhere..." is a *little* too long
