      One great album

      What an album this is!

I love this album. It features ALL of Snow Patrol's biggest (and best) hits from their first few albums (minus Fallen Empires). The CD does not have one bad song on it. You can play it through and through, you will never tire of it. The lyrics, the music, the emotion, they all tug at the heartstrings and Gary's beautiful voice makes even the slower songs sound absolutely breathtaking. I can relate to pretty much all of this album as it explores all the heartache (and happiness) that life can throw at you.

Snow Patrol are great musicians and this is shown on their greatest hits album. No two songs sound the same as the band try to go down a different road which each track, making sure that the listener doesn't tire of hearing the same sound over and over. "Just say Yes" is an example of this as it's actually a dance track, which you wouldn't associate with SP. It's a brilliant track though, even if it does sound a little out of place with the SP timeline when you first hear it!

The album is spread out amongst two CDs and the bigger singles (i.e Run, Chasing Cars, Chocolate, Spitting Games) are shared out amongst each CD. This album is pure excellence and I would recommend it to EVERYONE who enjoys decent quality music with FEELING and EMOTION (which is a rare thing these days).

      BUY IT!

      .

I only became a fan of Snow Patrol back in 2004 when someone leant me their Final Straw album. After several listens I was certain that it was time for me to buy it for myself and since then they have become a favourite of mine. I think like a lot of people when I found that they were releasing a compilation of their songs I was a little disappointed. Usually it means they are either splitting up or their management wants more money. Also it's likely that big fans would own most of these songs anyway, but as this was a present I accepted it willingly!

There are 30 songs in total, stretching across two discs. The alternative rock band has put together tracks spanning from their 15 year career which include a few new tunes and cover songs. Rather than it being a selection of their greatest hits, they've picked out their favourite tracks so there are a few on their which I have never heard before. They have also included live versions of their tracks; Run (thankfully not Leona Lewis's version!) and Chasing Cars. So it is slightly different from your typical selection of all the songs they've released but despite it being described as 'the best of' on Amazon there are songs which I think should really not of been included.

As you can see plenty of their songs you might recognise if you already own all of their albums, a couple of new tracks in my opinion is not worth buying the CD. There is only one song which I need to point out as being truly awful! Occasionally when doing a cover song you might improve it, in the majority of cases you ruin it. Exactly what Snow Patrol have down with Crazy in Love-yes that Beyonce song. It just does not suit their voices and as they are more of an indie rock band it's going to be their interpretation. Guitars and gravelly voices do not mix with this type of music and I just have to laugh when they go into the "oh oh, oh oh, oh..." bit. Needless to say unless I generally skip this track.

Snow Patrol have been around for a while but it's nice to see that amongst all of these new bands and changes in popular music they can still have a place. It still has their classic style but you can tell how their songs have matured as they have in the industry. 15 years is a long time to still be liked amongst a lot of different age groups.

If you have never listened to a Snow Patrol album then I think this would be a good place to start as it is a great taster of what they are about. You can currently buy this on Amazon for £4.93 but for those of you who own all of their music I shouldn't bother. You could probably find the songs which you haven't heard on a download site anyway.

A great introduction to Snow Patrol

When I first heard that Snow Patrol were producing a greatest hits album I was a little disappointed. Although the band have plenty of material I was hoping for a completely new album. To my delight the boys did include 3 new songs 'Just Say Yes', 'Dark Roman Wine' and 'Give Me Strength'. The new tracks sound good and fit in well with the rest of the album. 'Just Say Yes' is a particular highlight and is quite different to what the band have done before.

The song selection for the best of is quite well done, they haven't had a lot of chart success with the main exceptions being 'Run' and 'Chasing Cars' so this collection is more a selection of the band's favourite songs rather than a selection of number one hits. There were a few songs that weren't included like 'How To Be Dead' and 'Hands Open' that should've been. Perhaps removing the live versions of 'Run' and 'Chasing Cars' which although very good in their own right, don't really fit in with the other tracks and the proper versions are already in the collection. 'An Olive Grove Facing The Sea' is also not the original version and I think this version is nowhere near as good. The inclusion of tracks like 'You Are My Joy' and 'Cartwheels' from Gary's side project 'The Reindeer Section' was surprising but a smart move as many people will not have ever listened to them before, not to mention the fact that they're just great songs. Also included was the cover of Beyonce's 'Crazy in Love' which is amazing.

Snow Patrol are one of my favourite bands and while skeptical at first over whether to purchase this, I gave in. For fans that already have all the albums it's good to have it for the three new songs and for brand new fans who've never listened to the band before it's a great introduction to them.

          Disadvantages

This is a great album for both die-hard fans and Snow Patrol virgins!

As it is coming up to Christmas it is time for all those Greatest Hits albums to hit the shelves! Snow Patrol are one of my favourite bands and this year they seem to have jumped on that bandwagon but they are doing something a little different.

Up To Now is not just a typical Greatest Hits album. The album features tracks from Snow Patrol's 15 year music career and it is described as the bands most loved songs rather than just a collection of all the singles that they have released.

Greatest Hit albums are usually about one thing, making money. Up To Now is such a nice change! 3 new tracks on there, a couple of covers and some songs by Gary Lightbody's side projects.

As a Snow Patrol fan I know most of the songs on the 2CDs but there were one or two that I wasn't sure about so I'm going to run through the tracklist for you and tell you a little more about where each song is from...

          CD 1
          ------
1, Chocolate (Single from Final Straw)
2, Chasing Cars (Single from Eyes Open)
3, Crack The Shutters (Single from A Hundred Million Suns)
4, Set The Fire To The Third Bar (Single from Eyes Open)
5, Crazy In Love (A great cover of the famous Beyonce song!)
6, Just Say Yes (New song)
7, Batten Down The Hatch (From the album When It's All Over We Still Have to Clear Up)
8, You're All I Have (Single from Eyes Open)
9, Hands Open (Single from Eyes Open)
10, Cartwheels (By the band The Reindeer Section)
11, The Planets Bend Between Us (Single from A Hundred Million Suns)
12, Ask Me How I Am (Single from When It's All Over We Still Have to Clear Up)
13, On/Off (From When It's All Over We Still Have to Clear Up)
14, Making Enemies (From When It's All Over We Still Have to Clear Up)
15, Run (Live at The Union Chapel)

          CD 2
          ------
1, Take Back The City (Single from A Hundred Million Suns)
2, Shut Your Eyes (Single from Eyes Open)
3, An Olive Grove Facing The Sea (a solo rendition performed by Gary Lightbody)
4, Run (Single from Final Straw)
5, Give Me Strength (New song)
6, Signal Fire (Single from the Spiderman 3 Soundtrack)
7, Spitting Games (Single from Final Straw)
8, Open Your Eyes (Single from Eyes Open)
9, Dark Roman Wine (New song)
10, Fifteen Minutes (From the album Songs for Polarbears)
11, You Are My Joy (The first single from the scottish supergroup The Reindeer Section that Gary Lightbody started)
12, The Golden Floor (From the album A Hundred Million Suns)
13, Starfighter Pilot (Single from Songs for Polarbears)
14, PPP (B-side to the Run single)
15, Chasing Cars (Live at The Union Chapel)

Snow Patrol never wanted this to be a Best Of or a Greatest Hits album. It is simply their favourite songs. It is a definite must-have for all Snow Patrol fans as I found the new material great! Give Me Strength is one of the new songs and it really is a great song in it's own right.

I loved hearing some of the songs from The Reindeer Section as I had not heard them before and the Snow Patrol cover of Crazy In Love is amazing! Even Beyonce would love it!

You can pick up this great album for only £8.95 on Play.com and for 2 CDs worth of great songs it is definitely worth it.

Snow Patrol have been around for a long time and if you have never delved into their music then this album is the perfect place to start! It is a greatest hits album but it is refreshingly new at the same time!

          10/10
