Vanessa's debut album "The Power" didn't chart over here in the uk but I bought it and I'm here to tell you it's fantastic. She has a voice like no other teen singer in the industry. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Britney but her voice does not compare to Vanessa's. And for those of you who think Christina is "it". Think again. Vanessa makes Christina sound like Lolly!

Here is a track by track review of The Power (the UK version).

1. UR Mine
This only actually sounds kinda like a Britney song. Its about a friend of Vanessa's being pregnant. Bit of a strange topic for a pop song, but there you go! Its a good pop song but tis actually my least favourite on the album.

2. Absoluteley Everybody
This is more like it! You should all know this song as to date its been Vanessa's only single (Shine will be released next month). Its poppy and boppy and darn fantastic! The chorus will have you singing along before you even know the words!

3. Shine
This is one of my personal faves. Its a beautiful song but kinda sad because Vanessa wrote it when a close friend commited suicide. Still, it has a positive message in it and people should take note of the lyrics. This is going to be her next single and I really hope it does well for her as it's a brilliant song.
*fave lyric* - "You're getting old and the longer you take the slower your pain will grow"

4. I wanna be your everything
Hold on...where's the poppy boppy beat gone? Well this is another side of vanessa musically and vocally. This shows the rock chick from within start to emerge. Its about chasing a guy who's a tad shy.
*fave lyric* - "Just talk to me, a little bit longer, and if it don't kill you, I know it can make you stronger"

5. How You Livin'
Next comes the turn of R&B diva Vanessa. I LOVE this song. Its about one of her ex's who I get the impression she doesn't like a whole lot anymore! This one's for the lower part of Vanessa's voice which is just as fantastic as the top! It'll have ya shakin' your hips in no time!

6. Everytime I Close My Eyes
This song is THE ballad of the album (well actually, it is really the only one!). It's a beautiful toon and hearing Vanessa on those bottom notes is spine tingling.

7. Pray For Love
This is a bit of a "big box, little box" moment. Yes, yet another genre of music is incorporated into the album! This is Vanessa at her best - her voice soaring over the high notes. It's a bit of a bizarre song actually, there's not really a defined chorus or anything but you won't be able to stop yourself bopping along.

8. The Power
This is Vanessa's latest single in Australia and her 4th top ten hit. It did well but unfortunately didn't really emulate the success of her previous three singles. However in my opinion (and here speaks the voice of infinite wisdom!) it would have sold better if they hadn't remixed it. The album version of the song is far superior to the single mix. It's a funky mixture of pop and dance and she makes the vocals sound so easy!

9. Steam
This is one of 3 bonus tracks on the UK album. Its a mid tempo, stand behind a mic song but its still great! Its about a bloke being in a strop with her, but our Vanessa ain't standing for it anymore!
*fave lyric* - "Cos you're crazy through the day and you're crazy through the night, and what the hell you been crazy all your life!"

10. Turn To Me
This is another of the bonus tracks on the album. Its pop, Absolutely Everybody stylee with a bit of Latin spirit mixed in! It also shows what she can do with her voice. There's a bit towards the end where she sings impossibly fast!Not the easiest to sing along to!

11. You Were Led On
This is one of the albums slower songs but its another one of my faves. I think you can gather what its about from the title! It makes her voice sound amazing and again shows you what things she can do with it (but she does it subtly - not gang-ho christina style "Hey I can scream this high, wanna hear AAAARRRRRGGGHHHH".) Sorry christina just irritates me! Where was I? Yeah, ok, finished with this one!

12. Have a Look
Here we have Vanessa'a Aussie debut single. Its a welcome return to the rock chick. My friend loathes pop music but even she was bobbing her head and tapping her feet to this one. Its a completely different side of Vanessa's voice. She sounds amazing. Its about an ex that she wants back but who is with someone else. It starts off like a Natalie Imbruglia song, if you hear it you'll know what I mean, but it turns out nothing like! She is far better than Natalie (not that I have anything against her!).

13. Get Here If You Can
This is bonus number three and the albums "secret track" though unlike most bands she doesn't make you sit there listening to nothing for 1/2 an hour! It comes straight on. Its a cover of the old classic. Its got a dance beat behind it so it's not insanely dull and boring like the original!

Well there we go. If you've sat there and read all that you deserve knighting! I sound like one of tose constantly chirpy people you just wanna shoot!
Anyways, definately check this album out. Oh yeah, also. Vanessa writes all her own music and arranges all her own vocals so we'll have no talentless bimbo comments! :0)
