What can happen in 6 years? Degrees are earned; hearts won, and marriages resolved and divorces decreed; prison sentences served, pardoned and reconvened; and, all other matters of life and death that happen in a lifetime. If such is the call of true life then it can be no surprise that eventually Life happens to even the best of us all, good and bad. Suffice it to say, losing dear loved ones is not an easy thing to overcome, yet Neil Peart and his trusted best friends, Geddy Lee & Alex Lifeson did just that. They were six long years. Neil had lost his wife and daughter, Alex and Geddy had solo projects and there was no certainty that Rush would ever release a new album. When it did happen there were the worries. Could they still achieve the same technical standard? Would the songwriting take a while before they gelled again? Would the result be disappointing after such a wait? They could, it didn't and it wasn't. From start to finish this album is filled with energy. After a six-year hiatus in which Neil Peart sadly lost his daughter and his wife, Rush fans have waited patiently while sending out their love to Neil. With a solo album from Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson out for several years, these albums didn’t quite fill the void that was Rush. Geddy Lee’s album (My Favorite Headache) could be considered an interim Rush album as although only Geddy performs on this album it is very much in the style of Rush; it does concentrate on Geddy’s phenomenal bass playing at times but really didn’t show much different from Geddy.
