Advantages: true classics, meatloaf is a fabulous singer, good mix of ballads and rock
Disadvantages: some sound tinny
I've been a fan of Meatloaf since the eighties, I worked in a photo lab and we always had Meatloaf or something similar playing in the background, usually the Hits Out Of Hell album and we used to get lots of comments on how much better our background music was compared to other places.
I bought this album after developing a nostalgic craving for some of the music I used to listen to and this one seemed to contain many of the songs I used to love. I bought it on ebay for £4.99 including p&p so it was a bargain!
The album contains 2 CDs and the tracks are as follows:
Disc One
1.Home By Now/No Matter What
2. Life Is A Lemon And I Want My Money Back
3. You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night)
4. Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad
5. Modern Girl
6. Rock 'n' Roll Dreams Come Through
7. Is Nothing Sacred
8. Paradise By The Dashboard Light
9. Heaven Can Wait
Disc: 2
1. I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)
2. Kiss Is A Terrible Thing To Waste
3. I'd Lie For You (And That's The Truth)
4. Not A Dry Eye In The House
5. Nocturnal Pleasure
6. Dead Ringer For Love
7. Midnight At The Lost And Found
8. Objects In The Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than TheyAre
9. Bat Out Of Hell
The first time I listened to this I was in my car, I'm a real car crooner and although I'm aware enough that I cannot sing, whilst in my car I have a damn good try! I put the first CD on and listened to the first couple of tracks with a slight smile on my face, Meatloaf brings such drama to his music and his use of classical and rock together makes them very dramatic indeed, add to that his big, big voice and you've got some fantastic music.
When I reached You Took The Words Right Out of My Mouth I found myself laughing with joy! I'd forgotten the speaking intro completely! And Paradise By The Dashboard Light provoked another bout of grinning and laughing like a fool! Such classics!
I love Modern Girl and Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad and felt they'd stood the test of time. The only one I thought sounded like the tinny eighties music it is was Dead Ringer For Love but you can excuse that as none of this stuff is freshly recorded.
Meatloaf has an amazing voice and compare it to much of today's music I wonder how many of them managed to even get noticed after singers like Meatloaf had gone before them.
It's a true classic.
Summary: brilliant album for nostalgic thirty somethings
