Lacking one track, but still "Tickety boo".

What a great compilation by "our Vera", if you love the Forties era and its music, as I do, then this CD is for you. Virtually all of Veras' greatest wartime songs are here, they evoke such wonderful memories and scenes of one of our Finest, yet very darkest hours.

The quality of the recording is very good bearing in mind what equipment was available at the time, presumably the tracks have been digitally remastered for modern day consumption, but none of the atmosphere has been lost at all.

This CD has the power to move me to tears in some places, the memories of wartime and of my parents, who loved Vera, is sometimes just too much for me to bear - they were always playing her songs. In particular the numbers with "massed" backing tracks (Just conjure up a music hall with hundreds of seated troops singing along) are just so powerful...
I do have one complaint about this selection of tracks though, and it is a big one, Where is a "A Nightingale sang in Berkeley square". That is one of the most moving and evocative tracks ever recorded by Vera during those dark days - that is a serious omission. I assume that it is probably something to do with ownership / copyright no doubt. Such a shame, and greatly missed from the listing. Its omission means, in my opinion, that the CD is just excellent instead of outstanding. Please do not let it stop you from buying it though, you will not be disappointed.

There could have been a little more information on the sleeve of the CD about Vera herself and the chosen tracks but that is only a small criticism, you don't buy a CD for that anyway. The music is why you buy and that is fabulous and timeless.

If you are in the market for a Vera Lynn CD then this is a "Goodie", get it while you can.

TTFN, and please remember "There is a war on"..
