Advantages: Good production, Decent Rnb/pop songs
Disadvantages: voice is nothing special
She's always out shopping,she's always with her gorgeous husband,she's always on magazine covers but somehow she still found time to make a solo record.
Victoria Beckham,the most famous and talked about woman in this country releases a record which nobody bothers to listen to.It gets to number 10 in the chart,then falls to number 35,then out of the top 75 all within a month.Hardly good enough for the queen of publicity & fashion.
So,with 25,000 copies sold the press savagely brand her solo career over.If only they listened to the record...
'Victoria Beckham'as she titled it,isn't a work of art.Fair enough,everyone knew it was goin to be cool pop/RnB using the best american producers and writers,yet it's not a bad effort at all,considering the amount of bad press surrounding it,or rather her.
Her debut solo effort,'Not such an innocent girl'was a good,generic,polished pop single.Unfortunatley it was released the same week as the best record of the year,and around the time when some towers were falling down making the front pages instead of ms.b dining at the ivy with mr.b.So,somehow she still managed to make it top 10.Good work vicki,but not good enough.
After the predictable 'Innocent girl' there are actually a good few tracks on her album.The swooping chorus of 'Mind of it's own' took her back to the top 10.
and then the chilled out cool of 'that kind of girl'and chique production of 'Like that' make the album worth a listen.The best tracks on the album are 'Midnight Fantasy'&'I wish',edgy,cool well produced slices of Rnb/pop.There is even a rant at an ex -band member in 'what you talkin bout?'
Her ballads,'I.O.U'&'Unconditional Love' only have one person in mind(hmmm who's that?)and are sung with the most emotion victoria can extract out of her feeble voice.
Her voice is nothing
special,although she can sing.But as everyone knows,it's her producers&co-writers who make the album what it is.nevertheless it's a good effort,but I'd stick to walking down bond street in my gucci sandals...
